E4 and Channel 4 have gained the exclusive broadcast rights to 90210 and will be airing the first season next year. It’s reported that the broadcaster fought off competition from ITV2 and Channel Five in order to bring the show to Britain. 90210 will now join the likes of Smallville, One Tree Hill and Samantha Who in E4's line-up.

The hit show, produced by CBS Paramount Network Television, is a spin-off from the iconic drama series Beverley Hills 90210, which aired between 1990 and 2000. Some of the original cast, including Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth, will be appearing in the new show when it airs next year.

The first series of 90210, still airing in the US, has been a huge hit and according to The Guardian newspaper, 4.9 million viewers watched its US debut . "The legacy of the 90210 franchise has excited fans everywhere, making this the hottest new show sought after by broadcasters worldwide," explained Armando Nunez, junior president at CBS, in a statement. "We’re thrilled to partner with Channel 4 to be able to introduce UK audiences to 90210," Nunez added.

In a statement, Jeff Ford, director of acquisitions at Channel 4, said, "90210 is one of the hottest series to come out of the US right now, and we are thrilled that E4 and Channel 4 will be its UK home."
