When NBC opted to not renew My Name is Earl this spring, it was a devastating blow for fans of comedies about the misadventures of rednecks with karmic intentions. However, it was not a devastating blow for fans of the show's creator, the very funny Greg Garcia.
As one of the more talented comedic showrunners in the business, it was just a matter of time before he landed a new job. Garcia, who also served as executive producer and writer for Yes, Dear, will now take his talents over to Fox with a new untitled sitcom, reports Variety.
In true Garcia fashion, the new program will follow a 25-year-old man who raises a child that is the result of a one-night stand with a woman who ends up on death row after committing murder. To complicate things further, he enlists the aid of his unusual family to help him out. What, you thought Garcia would do another According to Jim?
"It's kind of in the world that Earl inhabited," Garcia told Variety. "The same type of people. And with Yes, Dear, I enjoyed writing about families and raising children. So I came up with this idea, which in a way combines those two things."
The show is currently in development at Fox, with Garcia just ready to put pen to paper on the pilot script.
My Name is Earl ran for four seasons on NBC. Upon hearing the news of his show's cancellation, Garcia said, "It's hard to be too upset about being thrown off the Titanic." You can bet Garcia is going to put some serious effort into his new show to prove to NBC that they made a mistake.

"It's hard to be too upset about being thrown off the Titanic." Lol. NBC basically is the Titanic of networks these days. Heres to hoping the ship sinks for good.
I miss Earl already!
I will Earl. But am looking forward to the new show.
My Name is Earl was great.
All I know is, any "talent" that created My Name Is Earl should never be allowed near TV writing ever again.
I wish it loads of success. I will be watching. Take THAT NBC!
