Eddie Izzard today announced that he's hoping to turn his canceled TV series The Riches into a movie. Talking to the BBC, Izzard said: "We've had the meeting and the writers are going to go off and slam out a story."
The Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated drama about a family of con artists, in which Izzard costarred alongside Oscar nominee Minnie Driver, lasted two seasons on FX and was broadcast in the UK on Virgin 1. The show was canceled in April after it struggled to draw an audience, despite receiving positive reviews.
Izzard, who is currently performing a stand-up show in London's West End, said: "We're going to raise money like Barack Obama through the Internet, and we're going to shoot it guerilla-style."
"We're going to just get in there and maybe not have permission to do things, but just film it," the 46 year-old actor explained. "People will be going, 'who are they? Who are they?"
The film will be independently funded, and Izzard believes that now is the "perfect time" to make the movie. "Everything's getting tight, money's getting tight and there's the credit crunch--so it's the time to go out and be inventive," he said.
Will you be glad to see The Riches return?

I love The Riches. I was really disspointed to see that it got cancelled. I hope this gets made. I would love to see what kind of story line they came up with. The pots of the episodes were always wild I couldn't imagine what they would come up with for a movie. I like the sound of the idependent style they are going for. Eddie Izzard is a great actor and comedian. His DVD Live at Wembley Stadium is sure to be another stand up classic. I highly recommend it. Here are some clips... http://bit.ly/1qcEBtEnjoy

Lets see if this actually happens...because i doubt it, it was only a cable show probably not a big enough audience. But who knows we'll see.
I would love a movie -- I love Izzard, and I really enjoyed The Riches, but I can't help but get the impression that he was sort of kidding about how they plan to shoot it and fund it.
I never watched the Riches but I fully support the idea. Hopefully some of my other fav cancelled shows will take the hint. You listening, Rob Thomas and cast of Veronica Mars? Heh? Heh?
