The eighth and final season of Entourage has been announced.
With the seventh season of the show well under way in the States, the production team has confirmed that an abridged season (consisting of only six to eight episodes) will conclude the long-running comedy drama.
"The plan right now is we'll finish up this season, we'll do a shorter order for next season, we've talked about six," HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo told the Hollywood Reporter.
This news comes only weeks after Mark Wahlberg, one of the show's co-executive producers, spoke to journalists about the possibility of a movie version of the television drama being made, to act as the closing chapter to the series.
With the final series being confirmed as being significantly shorter, one could speculate that the film will take off directly where the season stops. Devout fans of the show will be breathing a sigh of relief that the show seems to have some steam left in it.
We've not seen the last of Vinnie (Adrian Grenier), Ari (Jeremy Piven) et al. yet!
What do you think about the Entourage announcement? Should it have finished years ago, or do you think it could run and run?

Entourage could for sure run longer! its a *** great show and is one of mark wahlberg\'s greatest successes! I think it would be better if they just made season 8 the normal length and didnt have a movie but they will make more money with a movie, so thats what they are gonna do!
It could run and run and run and run and run forever. I mean seriously, whats with TV.com babbling about how much it sucks? I started watching it at season 5 and had to get all dvd boxsets of the previous seasons and everything to keep up, Ari is the best and the current plot is great imo.
I really enjoyed seasons 1-6 and the season 7 premiere was equally good but the last few have started falling (in my opinion). Maybe 8 seasons is a good place to leave it though I'd rather a full season than a movie!
