They say bad things happen in threes, and rounding out the trifecta of ABC's cancellations yesterday was Eli Stone. According to The Los Angeles Times, producers gathered cast and crew members and gave them the bad news yesterday.
Eli Stone was once considered a bubble show, but after a strong showing last year hope was high for the drama. Unfortunately, things just didn't work out for the program in season two, and ABC decided to yank it from its schedule. As was the case with ABC's other cancellations, the writers' strike has been deemed the main culprit of Eli's sluggish performance.
Jonny Lee Miller starred as the titular lawyer who has a change of tune after experiencing prophetic visions. Not knowing whether his visions are the result of a higher power or a brain aneurysm, Eli begins to approach each of his cases differently.
ABC will continue to air all 13 episodes of this season of Eli Stone, which is on Tuesday nights. The network also canceled Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money.
Wow...three gone from ABC just like that. Which one are you most sad to see go?

I started watching Eli Stone (that is so far the pilot and eight episodes of Series one) which was shown here in the United Kingdom in the summer of this year (2010) on the channel "Fiver".
At the end of episode eight there was a statement that the next episode would show in two weeks time and that's been it - it's not been seen or heard of since then. There hasn't been any information on the "Fiver" chanel website and it appears to fall into a black hole.
In an attempt to find out what has happened to the show which I found to be brilliant, thoroughly enjoyable and one that I found myself waiting for the next episode of I have just seached around and found this article that advises me that the show has been dumped by ABC.
I totally agree with the many comments that have previously been submitted on this subject and in particular that of "sebbeG7" I would also like to thank "sebbeG7" because I now also know what happened to "Moonlight" which disappeared over here after Series one. I thought that show was great and was really enjoying it.
As with the comments made by "ramoss76" I too have never signed up to anything to make coments but I feel so strongly about this issue and I fully support the points made about dreadful shows such as "Desperate Housewives" and in the United kingdom would add to that unbelivable, disgusting and horrendous reality shows such as "Big Brother"
As"ramoss76" says "Not all TV viewers are into nothing but lies, sex and violence"
Having now found out that Greys Anatomy another favourite of mine is produced by the same network I wonder how much longer this will have to run before it too bites the dust of the ABC floor.
I just hope the people at ABC take time out to read the feedback from their viewers and take account of it or perhaps they are just too far above and far removed from such valuable information.
A very sad situation whatever happend to good entertainment.moreless
OK, TNT, do your thing and pick up Eli Stone! ABC is has lost its footing and is playing to the reality/baser side of entertainment! Eli Stone is smart, cleaver, intellectually stimulating and must not play to the "Twitter", "Instant gratification" - "Don't Make Me Think" generation... I hope all of Eli Stone fans will show their protest by leaving ABC for good!
i hate you ABC!
Don't get it, this show was awsome :(
you people at ABC makes me sick, how in the @#$% can you cancel Eli Stone, please bring it back I just can not understand this at all. NOT VERY HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When will ABC be airing the final 4 eps? I don't want them to cancel this show but they have made their minds up. So yet another great show from ABC gets canned, joining my other favourites Boston Legal, Jericho and Men In Trees.
Way to go ABC, you really know how to make your viewers happy... NOT!!!
As a TV series writer I'm really upset that ABC has canceled Eli Stone. I not only appreciate the fantastic writing but the entire production. I can only hope that some other network picks it up. I'd love to write for that cast.
What the f*ck are the American Broadcast companys thinking???
They cancel every good show i get into before the first season even airs over here (Sweden).
Firefly, Jericho (1,5 seasons really), Moonlight, Eli Stone.
Seriously, get a grip on yourselves and bring back Eli Stone cause I can't stand to lose this show as well.
Please continue Eli Stone --OR... come and make it in Australia -- we love it. No... autopsies-violence-horror-sanctimonious new aging-blatant sex symbol characters or boring reality theme -- And we still love it - love the actors, the characters, the dialogue, the story lines, the cameos and the way it makes us feel good and excited to see the next episode. SO SAD IT WILL END. Please change your minds.
abc stinks dropping eli stone and dirty sexy money.
This just makes me furious! I am so sick of ABC cancelling smart, thought-provoking, unique shows (i.e. Eli Stone, Boston Legal, Men in Trees, Ed - just to name a few). But, by all means, keep the mindless reality shows and just make more shows like already exisiting ones (as in, Private Practice is a complete spin off of Grey's Anatomy!). It just makes me want to watch nothing but TVLand and other stations that just replay the older, good shows because if you invest in a new show and begin to really like it, it gets cancelled!
This is just so sad. I always say that the best shows are ones that make you want to know what happens next and that's how I felt about Eli Stone. It's gotten to the point where you don't dare invest in a series any more, because it'll surely be yanked from the schedule before you find out what happens next. I'm hoping that maybe they'll change their minds about Eli Stone, but I won't hold my breath. I've been through this way too many times before. Sad.
I don't watch many shows anymore - Criminal Minds, NCIS, 24, Prison Break... and Eli Stone. Eli Stone was my favorite, the one that always made me smile and really look forward to the next episode - well, okay, 24 does that, too, now that it's back on, but not in such a lighthearted way! :-) I didn't bother to get invested in Pushing Daisies or DSM because I figured they wouldn't last, but I completely fell love with Eli Stone! The show even converted me to liking George Michael's music. ABC is just crazy. CBS may have cancelled my last favorite (Joan of Arcadia), but at least I can count on them to have a ton of crime procedurals on at any given moment... duplicates of some! And at least I'll always have my DVDs of the few bright spots - good new shows that come out and last for a season or two. Sigh. Someone needs to rewrite "Video killed the radio star" as "reality tv killed the well-written, intelligent series." :-Pmoreless
Eli is the only show my husband and I watch together. We love it!!! Please, Please, Please, keep Eli on air.
I've been checking the guide - no Eli Stone. Thought maybe with the holidays, the schedule had been juggled a bit. Am so disappointed with this news. I loved the story, the acting, the writing. Maybe with the late hour it never drew a crowd. Hope another channel picks its up! It's too good a show.
I have never signed up with a web site in order to voice an opinion until now. I only watch 2 non-cable shows and now I guess I am down to just 1. If you want to cancel something, get rid of some of the worst shows like The Bachelor or Desperate Housewives and let us have a FAMILY hour. Not all TV viewers are into nothing but lies, sex and violence. Eli Stone was the one show that we, as a family, could watch and enjoy. I guess that God, miracles and hope are a thing of the past. Too bad, I now have no shows on ABC left to watch. I hope USA or TNT will have the good sense to pick it up and run with it.
Come on network execs!!! :@ This show is well written and well casted. Why must you always end shows that are this great and keep other shows that aren't around? And when will the 13th and final episode? I want to know what happend to Eli.
This is sad indeed. I can only hope that some network that appreciates good, creative television, like USA, will pick Eli Stone up.
ELI STONE !!! how could they chancel Eli ?? that's just not fair..
Sad, sad sad! This show has been getting better. Eli's visions have changed in that he now tends to "be" someone else in his visions (his brother, father or Maggie's fiancee). There's a clever idea going on concerning his father and a book containing notes about the future which come across in a Butterfly Effect (the movie) kind of way.
There's drama, comedy and... something else. And THAT'S why this show should not have been cancelled. It's a new and improved Ali McBeal 2.0 type of show, and I love every minute of it.
Boo for the decision-makers!
ABC - YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!Eli Stone is the best series that has come along in 20 years! Funny, Clean, Encouraging, Absolutely delightful, incredible cast! Something the whole family can watch and benefit from together. You have got to CONTINUE with this series! If you don't it will be a HUGE loss for family viewing audiences everywhere, and a major mistake for ABC.
Keep Eli Stone!, it's bright, it's funny, it's different.I look forward to watching it every week, ABC don't make this mistake.
are they gonna air any more episodes of eli stone for the 2nd season???
I was shocked to find that Eli Stone is cancelled. I love many types of shows, serious, lighthearted, mystery. Eli Stone is a unique combination of serious, comedy, enlightenment, but above all, it makes you think that all can be good with the world despite odds. It shows us that you can win over adversity. Yes, it's TV but it is one show that brings hope in entertainment. Eli Stone has introduced great acting and some not so great but the combination is priceless. The actor/actresses bring out the best in each other as professionals, and I look forward every week to the creativity and spirit of this show. Shame on ABC for tanking a show because it can't see beyond the bottom line. Instead of cancelling shows in their second season, help promote them. Find out why it did poorly in the second season. This show is the perfect show for the times. The variety of characters brought together makes for a delightful, uplifting yet thought provoking show that tops many of the stupid sitcoms and reality shows we see today. KEEP ELI STONE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!moreless
Hello this show is the best show on ABC!!Why cancel? I don't know! Its the only show I watch on the stinking channel!!! That is like the stupidest thing to do!!
ABC KEEP ELI STONE!
I just heard from USAtoday.com Eli prepares for his brother's wedding as Eli Stone (ABC, 10 ET/PT) prepares to exit the schedule - at least until summer, and possibly for good. Eli wasn't a perfect series, but it was different and sometimes wonderful. A longer run would have been wonderful as well, but it's not to be. UNTIL SUMMER does that mean they'll show the remaining episodes over the summer. Does anybody know I just got to know.
Is this a kind of joke? really? ABC, can't you see how many people love that show? This show has its very own fans and that is the only show we -as a whole family- watch together. Of all the useless programs, reality shows, is Eli Stone your sacrifice? This show has one of the most amazing acting talent right now as far as I am concerned. Miller is awesome, Garber, Loretta Devine, Henstridge are perfect. Even minor characters are all very competent. Storyline? Another one that unique and intimate with audience right now?If it is all about rating or other money-making stuff, why does not anyone cares about the connection that show(or these shows including other two cancelled) has with its audience? I can't believe that is done. Even Henstridge -not saying that because she is really bad, because she is more like an eye beauty - displays very good acting skills, the story is much above the average, the show even has a musical taste in it in visionary scenes. If you guys - producers - read here what we all wrote, please get a deal with another channel. Can't the real good ever survive? First 4400, now Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money and finally Eli Stone, a show which has proven worthy of itself. Thank you ABC, that was a real xmas present, as you are done with that great show I am done with all ABC shows in the future, no matter what.moreless
Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies where my two favorite shows on TV. I guess I'll have to go back and check another network to see if they have intelligent and mature shows on its offering (maybe not). For now, I am done with ABC.
I will not give up hope that Eli Stone WILL be saved. It is original. Eli Stone all time favorite show. Eli Stone bring us faith, hope, and something to believe in. I consider it an all time feel good show the only one if its kind. We want to see Taylor and Matt get married and have the baby, whether Nate and Beth get married and have kids and most of all if Eli will ever find love and have a family. In the past I never cared before whether a TV show was canceled or not. Please give Eli Stone some more support, give it another chance. Have a heart ABC Listen to the fans not the ratings like the last time. I will not give up hope that Eli Stone will be saved. I know the fans will get it done. The world really needs Eli Stone right now. It is uplifting. It is well written, well produced and well acted. Given the chance, with time, and maybe a little more marketing, this show could be a huge success. It is such a breath of fresh air from all of the stupid staged “reality†shows, that are anything but reality. Give it a chance…heck, Seinfeld wasn’t a success at first either…. I think the viewing audience is ready for a fresh show like this, instead of the cookie-cutter, mass produced repeats that are the line up every night. where is your artistic integrity? With so much on TV that has questionable value, why cancel a show that is so positive and draws the viewer into plots that center around helping someone in need? We need this show and more like it. You finally come out with a decent show and you go and cancel it. I have never written in to “voice†my opinion before but this one really bothers me. I look forward to watching Eli. It’s one of my few pleasures I still have and now you’re going to take it away. It doesn’t make sense. Please ABC listen to the fans not the ratings Couldn’t you at the very least try a different time slot? Try 8:30 that is the time it airs in Australia or put it on Sundays episode 'Waiting for that day' did really well when it premiered. Or switch networks like they did with Scrubs. COME ON EVERYONE LET'S HELP SAVE ELI BY NOT WATCHING ANY NEW ABC SHOWS WATCH THEM ON THE INTERNET IF YOU HAVE TO. SAVE ELI STONE SAVE ELI STONE SAVE ELI STONE. Please ABC reconsider. DON'T CANCEL ELI STONE.moreless
I can't believe they are cancelling the show. This was my new favorite show. I swear sometimes I feel like giving up on tv shows all together because it seems like all the best shows get cancelled prematurely. The real kicker is so many people feel that way, yet they still get cancelled. I really don'y understand it.
What a tragedy. Perhap ABC should get some real people in to work out what makes up a great series. How can these studios get it so wrong. The whole family will miss this one.
why doesnt ABC network cancel all their shows and just air the boring ones...ABC cancelled dirty Sexy money & pushing daisies ..we can live without those series..but now Eli Stone this was the only series i started getting fond off and yeah like some1 mentioned no sex or cussing which is good....everything nowadays is about ratings which sux. From now on i aint gonna watch any series of ABC's
This is so predictable. If a show has any grey matter quotient involved, it is doomed to fail. The Big 3 Nets want an overnight sensation, through the roof ratings or axe the show! No wonder cable series are becoming so successful, they give a show time to grow. The big 3 used to do that ... maybe that's why they don't have that market share dominance they USED to have.
It is sad to see a good show get killed before its' time. The worst part is that the time slot will probably given to yet another annoying so-called "reality show".
My kids came home from college for the holidays, which meant we ended up watching the TV without the DVR pre-recorded shows, which resulted in us flipping around and watching ELI STONE. We really enjoyed it & so I thought, "Uh-oh, if we like it, it's probably getting cancelled..." I think the amount of commercials forced the people with the means to do so, to Ti-Vo shows, which means they only watch shows that they have recorded (cutting half an hour out of an hour show). This makes it hard for new shows to survive. So, a demographic that values - um- higher thinking, the shows that they value are not able to survive. I'm sorry to say most people are having lower and lower expectations for broadcast channels. I hope they can figure a way out of the downward spiral.moreless
Can't believe it !!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it !!!!!!! I'm so disappointed !!! One of my most favorite shows. Please, ABC, keep it !
Ok so the commercial companies want more people to watch in order to give their commercials (and their money) to the channels. So they give their money to reality TV. And low budget shows??? But, but, but … isn't a fact that only the poor and the illiterate people watch reality TV and the rest of the crap? These people do NOT consume. They live in trailers. What kind of marketing IS this? I don't get it. Is this why the economy goes from bad to worst? Bad management? Well duh!!!And the answer is “Pushing Daisies†(all though I found Eli rather amusing too and D.S.M. has its moments)
I'm very disappointed with ABC excutatives and their decision to cancel Eli Stone. It was the one show that not did I watch, but made the entire family watch and video taped for the ones that had to work or couldn't be here at that time so they could see it too. I enjoyed it also because it was the one show that I didn't have to worry about showing to my grand kids without prior censoring and it always had a twist to it so that it kept your interest in seeing what was going to happen next. Maybe ABC will be one of the companies that will suffer some type of melt down now in this economy as I won't be watching them much anymore and hopefully not many other people will either.moreless
Very sad to see ABC can't see they have a winner in Eli Stone. A wonderful story with such goodness. Oh that's right no one is killed, no cussing, no sex. Just a good written show about doing good. DON'T DO IT ABC!
I agree completely with all these opinions, as well as the many others posted on this board. I am so sick of the 'reality' crap that is all over ABC; some of it is so beyond ridiculous, I'd be curious to see what type of audience is actually watching them. I shutter at how low the networks will go and to what extent to provide more of these type of shows. I long for the good old days when dramas and comedies were plentiful. There is enough 'reality' in my day-to-day life; I don't need nor want to turn on my tv to see more. The nightly news is as real (and as depressing) as it gets, so why not do a 'reality-check' ABC and remember why it is viewers turn on their tv's. In case you've forgotten, it's to be entertained, while escaping the 'real world'. It's the opportunity to use our brains to think and be challenged (for more than how do I use an Emoticon in my e-mail), and to tickle our funny bones to prevoke laughter (a wonderful stress-buster). Eli Stone fit the bill, as have other shows in previous seasons, that you were very quick to give up on and cancel. My reality is that I think it's time to change networks for my viewing pleasure, or maybe even get rid of my tv's altogether. Lately, they are just gathering dust anyway! There is a large number of 'fans' and 'viewers' that you are constantly shutting out, so maybe it's time we returned the favour.moreless
I'm soooo disappointed- love this show!
Eli Stone is my very favorite show. I never miss this show and can hardly even believe that people are not putting this show as one of the top shows. The concept is different and is completely entertaining with a continuing story line that runs from week to week along with a different side plot that ends up being very enjoyable. The characters are great, compliment each other and they make the whole show complete. It is so disappointing when a show that you look forward to watching each week gets axed. Would love to see the show keep going for many seasons to come. I am also very disappointed in the network that cancelled this great show.
ABC can you keep anything that is decent?
wow! that is all I can say. ABC has made some bad decisions when it comes to shows before but this takes the cake. Eli Stone is one of the most moving and inspiring shows out there. Sure, it may be undiscovered genius, but that doesn't make it any worse. Eli Stone is an awesome show that keeps me guessing the whole time.
First,Dirty Sexy Money...Well,ok...I can handle that...
Then,Pushing Daisies...NO WAY!!! This is a nightmare coming true...I'm terribly wounded but still breathing...
Finally Eli Stone...Come on ABC guys, what the hell is wrong with you? You took two of the shows (Daisies and Eli) that i love most on TV and do you still expect me to watch & follow a new show you will put on screen in the future?
No,never, not, nada,no way...I protest ABC from now on and i won't be watching anything they do from now on...I hope other Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies fans would decide on the same thing too...So, the ones who are responsible about this bad decision can see where & what they did wrong...
Of the 3 canceled, Eli was my favorite.Never really got into Dirty Sexy or Pushing Daisies.
Okay....so, I've decided to stop watching television. You can't trust a show to live out a full season any more. The fact that ABC dumped my two favorite shows (Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies) infuriates me! They're awesome shows, full of surprises and unconventional story-lines. Sure they're not roping in the viewers, but it's quality entertainment!
I'm sooooo disappointed- I LOVE Eli Stone and so do all my friends (and my Mum)!
I am sooooo bummed!!!! Eli Stone has so much potential. It is already so interesting and addictive!! :(
