ER given three more episodes

I'm sorry, but you only have two,
maybe three episodes left to live.

For fans of the long-running medical drama ER, the date of March 12 wasn't a day to look forward to. That's the day ER was scheduled to end its 15-season run with a two-hour blowout finale. Now it seems as though March 12 may be off the hook.

NBC has decided to pick up three more episodes of ER, says The Hollywood Reporter, meaning the show could run into April if the network decides to keep it on a consistent schedule. The deal was negotiated with ER executive producer John Wells, who simultaneously bargained for the well-being of another project of his.

Wells' drama Police has been given a six-episode order as part of the deal. I won't even try to insult your intelligence by telling you what it's about (Wells has a habit of getting straight to the point with his series titles, doesn't he?), but it does take place in Los Angeles.

Why only six episodes, you ask? The studio that will be producing Police, Warner Bros. Television, didn't want such a lengthy commitment given the fact that NBC has given Jay Leno all the weekday 10 p.m. slots, which figures to be the same slot Police would air (ER currently airs Thursdays at 10 p.m.).

The extension of ER also puts a possible wrench in the plans for Kings, which was going to take over ER's slot when it expired (the plan was for Kings to debut March 19). Now Kings may not get its start until April (which is a bummer because it looks fantastic).

It's still hard to imagine television without ER, but it had a great run.

I had to quit watching ER in 2005 because of the stories. What? The stories are excellent, so why would she quit watching? Simple, the stories are excellent and make you feel like you are right there and since I tend to get a bit emotional with these characters, I'd start to cry in the plot and by the end of the show I'd have a full-fledged migraine. I figured I could just jump back in but now it's going off the air and I can't So migraines be damned, I am watching ER in sydication and am now in Season 13 plus watching Season 15 plus I am starting from scratch with Season 1 DVD. Am I going to miss the characters, their lives, the excellent writing? Yes!!! But thank God for DVDs.moreless

I haven't watched the show since Carter left.. except some of the episodes he guest starred in. The doctors keep getting younger and younger.. is this supposed to be ER or Baywatch?

People need to get your facts straight. It wasn't Dr. Green's Hand, and if you're not a fan of the show then don't bother talking about it's character's and plots since you don't know them. I've watched ER since day 1 and they have had good and bad episodes like any show. I have to say that this year, and in particular the last few episodes have been boring and slow. They bring on a big name to take over the ER and she ends up being a big bust of a character with no depth. She really doesn't do anything with or to the show.I think ER needs to give its last episodes a good kick in their pants to end on. So with this "give me" of a few episodes more, I hope they really do the original ER idea proud!moreless

Who Cares? I was probably 15 the last time I watched ER with the whole helecopter crash thing that if I remember right took Green's hand.

I'm very happy about this news. This last season of ER has been fantastic so far and Angela Bassett has just been incredible.

Glad ER gets these 3 extra episodes. Gives more time to build up to a really good series finale.

ER has been smoking awesome this season. Actually the last two years it seems to be picking up more steam. The stories and acting are smart, quick, enticing and I will really miss this juggernaut.
