Familiar faces on Survivor: Guatemala

In an apparent nod to The WB's The Surreal Life, producers have filled a few spots in Survivor's 11-th season cast with minor celebrities--including two contestants from the reality competition's last installment.

According to several Web reports, Stephenie LaGrossa and Bobby Jon Drinkard have been given a second chance at the million-dollar Survivor prize. Drinkard and LaGrossa were the last two members of the doomed Ulong tribe on Survivor: Palau, which was eventually won by New York firefighter Tom Westman.

Also joining the "celebrity tribe" will be former NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom, who spent six of his 10 seasons playing with the Dallas Cowboys. Hogeboom, now 46, has been working as a land developer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bret Hyble, a teammate from Hogeboom's college football days, says that "Gary is a very outgoing person. Once he puts his mind to do something, he does it."

Filming of Survivor: Guatemala is currently under way in Yaxhá-Nakum-Naranjo National Park, where castaways will live among the ruins of an ancient civilization. This is the first time the show has tread upon such sacred historical ground, but representatives of the Guatemalan government will monitor the entire production process to ensure that nothing is damaged.

Survivor: Guatemala will air on Thursday nights this fall. CBS will release an official cast list sometime in August.

Well that kinda ruins the "18 strangers". IF BJ and Steph are on the same tribe, thats already an allience, and the game hasn't started.

it's so cool how Steph and Bobby Jon get to return to survivor this season! I think they deserved a second chance. And to jcruse369, screw you!

  • jekyll

Stephanie and Bobby Jon will get voted off quickly out of sheer "they had their chance" jealousy.

  • jcurse369

the only thing more ***ed than survivor is the morons who watch this crap. if you're a fan, go get a catscan or a mri cause you need it bad.

I'm not a big Survivor fan, but thats pretty sweet

  • maritimer00

Interesting...though I had read that Bobby Jon and Stephenie were to be playing non contestant roles in the next version....

WHile I don't want Survivor to become, "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!," I'm glad that the series has given Stephenie and Bobby Jon another chance. Still, if the other Survivor 11 castaways recognize Bobby Jon and Stephenie, that'll probably piss them off - why should they get a second shot when no one else (besides the all-stars) got one?
• ServeEye4

That is cool, because they both could have gone way farther if they were not on a team of losers. It will be interesting to see who else the break out for this so called celebrity team.

Bobby Jon and Steph were my two favorites from the doomed Ulong tribe last season. I am glad that they get a second chance. Maybe this time their tribe won't completely ***.

Living amidst ruins was cool enough to get me for next season. This is just a bonus.

It's great to hear that Steph and Bobby Jon will get another chance. They were so competitve in Palau. Particularly Steph who managed to hang on for so long. Will be interesting to see if anything she has learn't from Palau will be used to her advantage.
As far as previous celebrity Survivors go, Rupert proved that this formula can work.

Well, I guess that those are two good reasons to watch the new season when it comes on again.
