Fan-named movie to air on Sci-Fi

The fans have spoken, and they said, "Unleash the Kraken!"

The Sci-Fi Channel will obey when it airs Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep, a film named in an online contest by Sci-Fi fans. The film, about a giant squid who menaces Jack Scalia, Victoria Pratt, and Charlie O'Connell--aka The Bachelor season seven--premieres on the cable net September 23.

Originally saddled with the mundane title Deadly Waters, Sci-Fi put out the call for online entries in the month of July. Among the thousands of potential titles were these nuggets: Two Guys, a Girl, and a Giant Squid; Tentacles Eight, Humans Two; The Squid Stays in the Picture; Stop or My Squid Will Shoot; and Killamari.

Kraken tells the story of a treasure hunter and a marine archeologist who team up to find an ancient relic, only to discover it is guarded by a giant octopus that seems to take the intrusion personally. Sci-Fi is showing the film as part of its Saturday Movie series, which pays homage to the B-grade popcorn flicks that used to populate drive-ins.

Must be inspired by Pirates Kraken. I prefer the one from Clash Of The Titans myself.

I'd read Sci-Fi gets a lot of money comissioning them, so they'll keep coming. Anyway, it's a great fix for an average horror fan like myself, whose life is complete without seeing Saw.

Minarvia, just like the article said, it's kind of a homage to B-movies. Which, as far as I know (only saw a couple, some years ago), were something like that.

Charlie O'Connell.... What a joke. That guy only got a start because his brother hired him... How did he become the Bachelor anyways? Did all 25 women lose a bet?
