Film critic Siegel dies at 63

Joel Siegel, well-known as the movie critic for Good Morning America, passed away at the age of 63 over the weekend, said ABC. Surrounded by family and friends, the critic lost a long battle with colon cancer on Friday.

Siegel joined Good Morning America in 1981, with weekly reviews appearing every Friday. He also hosted the annual Joel Seigel's Road to the Academy Awards, in which he talked with some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

"Joel was an important part of ABC News, and we will miss him," said ABC News president David Westin. "He was a brilliant reviewer and a great reporter. But much more, he was our dear friend and colleague. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joel's family."

Siegel has long been a supporter of cancer awareness, and in 1991, helped found Gilda's Club, named after former Saturday Night Live actress Gilda Radner, with actor Gene Wilder.

Siegel is survived by his son Dylan and his wife Ena Swansea.
