The soap is calling for aspiring actresses from the UK to audition for the part of Poppy Rogers, a friend of Malcolm Kennedy's, via YouTube.
It follows similar competitions in Australia, where the soap has found a number of its stars through Dolly magazine.
Alan said: "I think it's a marvellous idea. We've already tested the waters with this in Australia, with the Dolly magazine competition. Out of that came one of our most favoured actors of all time, young Sam Clark, who plays Ringo Brown.
"It's extraordinary how these sorts of competitions bring to the surface immense talent and we have enormous confidence it's going to hopefully discover a star in the UK."
He added that the contest indicates Neighbours' gratitude for staunch loyalty from its British audience.
"25 years of Neighbours has been absolutely wonderful but it's fair to say without the support of the UK audience, Neighbours may have struggled to go on so long. The show feels very grateful to the UK audience and great allegiance towards it. This is a really nice gesture to indicate how much the audience means to us."
