Fox 2016 Fall Schedule: Prison Break Revival and 24: Legacy Held for Midseason, No X-Files in Sight

UPDATE 5/20: Updated to reflect new schedules for Bones, Pitch, and Prison Break.

Ahead of Fox's annual Upfront presentation Monday afternoon, the network released both its new fall schedule and its planned midseason schedule, though don't be surprised if either of them change as shows are inevitably axed. As it stands, the network's fall schedule looks fairly familiar, with only three new series currently scheduled in the lineup.

The network's version of Lethal Weapon will lead into Empire on Wednesdays, which feels like a mismatched pairing if I've ever seen one. Meanwhile, The Exorcist is not paired with Lucifer on Mondays, but will hold down the fort on Fridays after new episodes of Hell's Kitchen so it's still on-theme at least in title. The lone new comedy Son of Zorn, a hybrid of live-action and animation, will join the Sunday evening comedy block.

Meanwhile, 24: Legacy, a.k.a. 24 Without Jack Bauer, will wait until midseason and get the prime post-Super Bowl slot before moving to its regular time period Mondays at 8pm until Gotham returns in the spring. The Prison Break revival, which will feature most of the original cast, including Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, will also debut at midseason, taking over on Thursdays after Bones wraps up its twelfth and final season. And sorry to burst your bubble (maybe?), but there won't be another season of The X-Files, at least not in 2016-2017.

Next season my fox's schedule:
Lucifer: so far the best new show of the season
Rosewood: not so bad afterall
LW and Legacy ( though should not be called 24)
Bones: just have to endure 12 episodes to bid farewell. After 11 seasons i might be able to go trhough

I've heard that X-Files season 11 will premiere sometime in 2017 - here's hoping it is SOON

Looking forward to checking out KICKING & SCREAMING, SHOTS FIRED, APB, & the FATAL ATTRACTION "event series" whenever it comes. FOX had also picked up RECON (I thought), but I don't see it?? Also any news on the fate of ZOOBIQUITY pilot: still under consideration?

Glad ROSEWOOD, GOTHAM, & BONES (final season) will return. No other FOX shows interest me.

For those wondering what Fox's next canceled Sunday sitcom is, I present Son of Zorn:

I even like Jason Sudeikis, but he is all wrong for this.

It's like watching a chimp with a scalpel in a nursery.

Really? I actually thought the programming blocks looked pretty decent - at least in terms of themetiaclly (if any of these new series are actually good is something else entirely).

It seems out of control. They try to repeat the same strategy as the last few years but there's no sense of confidence in the new content, just like last season. To me it seems like they are running around rampantly waving their arms, slashing at the delicate tapestry that is their network.

Including new upcoming shows, FOX has 9 that I like. CW is relatively a waste of prime over the air public rights with only 4 shows that I like. (For further comparison, CBS 23, ABC 12, NBC 12). Cable channels with the most for me are SHOWTIME & TNT with 7 each). I'd say FOX has been improving while CW needs a lot of better shows.

I've never cared about blocks, & especially not not with ON DEMAND.

please God, no more xfiles. the last season and that last movie confused me on which parts of season 8 & 9 Chris wanted me to pretend never happened.

I wish 10 didn't happen, I wish 11 won't happen.

Some interesting news. Sleepy Hollow returns in the Spring, so 18 episodes seems unlikely. It might be interesting to give 'Making History' a try. Maybe they can reuse some Sleepy Hollow sets.

Hmm...I've theorized that Supergirl and Legends might share a time slot, maybe a fifteen episode season for both, but it'll be curious if that means Legends will be on the CW (I know what happened last week with one of them) and then Prison Break in the next hour on Fox.

I think they'll dramatize The Exorcist, putting the series in jeopardy.

Well, I might watch Making History, and that's about it.

Friday at 9?1 So they already don't believe in the Exorcist. I thought the natural spot would be for it around Lucifer. But I suppose they are too different things. I still don't see how it is going to work.
