Ryan Murphy is one daring dude. His claim to fame is the twisted Nip/Tuck, which doesn't shy away from close-ups of plastic surgery procedures and bare bottoms. Another project that didn't make the cut focused on a man undergoing a sex-change operation (it looked great, btw). But now Murphy is apparently having a change of tune.
Fox has picked up Murphy's latest show, which is the polar opposite of his previous daredevil material. Glee has been picked up for 13 episodes and is a musical comedy about an upbeat high-school teacher who leads the school's glee club.
Matthew Morrison (Broadway's Hairspray) stars as McKinley High School teacher Will Schuester, who must work to return the school's glee club to its former glory. The team he works with is a ragtag group of amateur songsters, including a nerdy soprano, a stuck-up diva, and a stuttering soloist.
Glee is set for a 2009 debut. We're very curious to see what Murphy can do with a Fox comedy, and can you say perfect companion piece for American Idol?
