Fox moves fall to late summer

Fox was the last of the major networks to unveil its 2008-2009 prime-time schedule, and from the looks of it, it used its position to its advantage.

Though the new most-watched network was last to present its schedule to advertisers in New York City, it looks as though it will be first to show its new programming to viewers. Fox will kick off its season in late August with a week of two-hour premiere events in an effort to build up audiences early, beginning with the debut of Prison Break's fourth season on August 25.

That is followed the next day by the debut of what Fox hopes will be the next big television hit: J.J. Abrams' new sci-fi action show Fringe. Fringe, one of two new shows in Fox's fall lineup, will get the benefit of following House on Tuesdays, with the Hugh Laurie medical drama moving up to 8 p.m.

The second new show for the fall is Do Not Disturb, formerly titled The Inn. It will be half of Fox's live-action comedy Wednesday block, which is moving back an hour probably because CBS added an hour of comedy to its lineup on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which launched midseason this year, moves up to the fall on Monday nights with Prison Break. Bones is the odd man out, once again leaving its partner House and striking out on its own on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. and leading in to 'Til Death and Do Not Disturb.

2009 appears exceptionally strong for Fox, and it isn't just because of more American Idol. Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, Fox's other potential smash, will be held until January, where it will be paired with 24 on Monday nights. January will also see the debut of the new reality show Secret Millionaire, which follows rich guys as they help out those less fortunate. Later that spring, Family Guy spin-off The Cleveland Show and Sit Down, Shut Up will join Fox's Sunday animation block.

Looks like another strong year for Fox. The updated schedule is below.

I can hardly wait until new episodes of House and Bones, as well as the return of Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader and Don't Forget the Lyrics!
I am disappointed that Bones and House are no longer on the same night....

Fox why the h*ll do you keep moving shows it's ridiculous. The few, and I do mean few great shows that you do have ( House, Bones, etc.) keep getting moved around so nobody knows when to watch them, it's nerve wrecking. Quit f***ing moving 'em around! And please can we give the new shows more then two weeks before you cancel them, I would really appreciate that, Thank You.

Season 7 of Family Guy is going to be long I did the math it starts Aug 24th and then usally ends by late May. Family Guy shows a new episode every sunday. there will be between 36 and 38 episodes this season sweet!

  • MultiMaxX

I agree..Stop moving BONES... That's what FOX does when it's trying to get rid of a show..so they can say the ratings were low when they cancel it, when it reality people just don't know when it's on because they keep F-in moving it... well Good Luck! Bones speaks for itself! It's great..And Dollhouse is going to be awesome!!

    May 19, 2008
  • CTUAgentICEMAN

Didn't they start early before (2006 I belive) and most of the new shows ended up cancelled??? Can't wait for 24, Bones & House, but wish they didn't have to move shows around, switch days and whatnot.

You know, Fox is REALLY starting to tick me off with their constant need to move Bones. Its like they're testing the viewers. I wish they'd stop because Bones keeps a steady following no matter WHERE they move it to. Oh, I'm also excited about Dollhouse.

The Cleveland show looks like it has potential.I'm definitely going to be watching Terminator and Family Guy.

  • EternalMemoir

Aww...looks like Ramsay's gonna be pushed back to Thursday in the future. :( Well, at least I'll be even more charged up to see it. :)

That Cleveland Show seems interesting. I'll probably watch that since I like FG.

    May 18, 2008
  • supermariomelee

American Dad is not coming back till January next year? Guess that's due to the Cleveland Show. That Sit Down, Shut up show doesn't look like it'll stay on the air that long. It'll probably be another canceled show by Fox.

    No Prison Break after January?

I can't wait for Dollhouse. Hopefully Fox keeps it on for a while...Fox is terrible when it comes to giving shows a chance.

    May 17, 2008
  • PerfectDark0Fan

HVGirl 24 I think has always started on January with no weeks off in its run to go all the way til May. That is why is starts in January.

    May 17, 2008
  • HVGirl

Don't the head honchos get it when you move a show to Friday nights it's death?!? Flippin' A about Bones :( Who the heck watches Terminator-gay.And we have to wait until January for 24? :(

    May 17, 2008
  • suss2it

Good for Terminator and I can't wait for Dollhouse. Fox I'm starting to actually like your network.

    May 16, 2008
  • PerfectDark0Fan

Hopefully 5th Grader & Lyrics dont get the Friday night cancel curse.

  • mammalazz

    wow looking forward to fox

    May 16, 2008
  • MR1470

Are you kidding me? Bones is such a great show and in typical Fox fashion they're screwing with its time slot. Half a season on Wednesday and half a season on Friday?

    May 16, 2008
  • JetixMasterDan

Fox might actually get me to watch their Friday night line-up because of the move of 5th Grader and Lyrics. It'll be tough to decide which I want to watch more, them or wrestling. As far as the rest of their line-up goes, I'll catch Terminator in the fall, but spring will reign supreme again for me with 24. Then again, while it wasn't mentioned here, they do have a 24 movie that will air on FOX in November.

  • Dakotagirl823

The Fringe and the Dollhouse seem like promising shows but I'm sad that New Amsterdam won't be back. I'm just happy that House, Bones, 24, and Famiy Guy will be back.

  • RosAzzo

Fox has got some pretty good shows.

    May 16, 2008
  • angrodpallanen

markos528, no, 24 probably runs for like eight weeks or so, goes on hiatus, PB comes back to end their season and 24 ends it's run in may. it's like that every year, so I expect to happen it next year.

    May 16, 2008
  • sluggmunki_tx

I can't wait until 24 comes back! :D House is still going I see.

    May 15, 2008
  • shengongwu3000

I can't wait for The Cleveland Show to air next year! It'll be awesome! I still like Family Guy, however. The Simpsons and America Dad suck.

    May 15, 2008
  • LSUstinks11

    I'm going try to watch NFL,The Simpsons,American Dad,The postgame show,The OT,Hell's Kitchen,and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.

  • Markos258

i dont quite get this... if prison break is on mondays at 9 during the fall, but then its 24 from January onwards... does that mean that this season of prison break ends in december?!?!

    May 15, 2008
  • adamonfire

Prison Break, Gordon Ramsay shows and the cartoons for me.

    May 15, 2008
  • TKnHappyNess

Seth could've had a Family Guy spin-off with Quagmire, since he's hillarious.

    May 15, 2008
  • Hoeech

The Cleveland Show?? I seriously hope that Seth McFarlane knows what he's doing. I'm assuming that this will be a parody of other poorly considered spin-offs like "Joanie Loves Chachi", "The Ropers", "Joey" and "The Tortellis" to name but a few. Not all spinoffs turn out to be "Frasier".

    May 15, 2008
  • xiko1

Glad to see 24 coming back! As well as Bones and House. Those are my favorite shows. Dollhouse seems promising... Sad about New Amsterdam, though. It was a great show

    May 15, 2008
  • firefly317

okay, love the schedule, but in January 2009 I ahve a problem. Gossip Girl and HIMYM at 8 leaves no time nor DVR room for Dollhouse, which I have been so looking forward to. And Bones on Friday night! No! Although that probably isn't going to happen, since this will be the third year year in a row they've made plans for that. And since it has been narrowly avoided the last two years I'm not so sure we'll get out of it this year, unless Fringe is cancelled or we get another strike, like that'll ever happen.

  • clos_vf

simpsons and family guy are the best shows.

    May 15, 2008
  • bernsd3

Looks like a good lineup. Glad to see all the old favorites back & can't wait for Dollhouse to be paired with 24. Just kind of sad that New Amsterdam won't be back. For me, FOX has a very strong Monday thru Wednesday lineup, but I won't be in there for Thursday or Friday since I don't watch 'reality tv'.

im glad terminator is back, and kitchen nightmares... they r two great shows

    May 15, 2008

Yeah I watch a lot of Fox though I wish Til Death would have got cancelled! How is that show still running?

    May 15, 2008
  • Jackson_Holtorp

I'm watching King of the Hill, Family Guy, The Simpsons and Prison Break. I use to watch House but it's kind of the same now but it's still a great show. I'll watch Cleveland when it comes out. :D

    May 15, 2008
  • 4EverGreen

It looks like "The Cleveland Show" is actually going to be interesting. The Clevelands are going to have bear neighbors by the looks of things, that ought to be interesting! Enough said! ;)
