Fox opens up fall schedule

Fox is continuing with its bread and butter.

The network will rely heavily on reality shows for the first half of the fall season, with primetime programming on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday occurring sans scripts.

The new project from the producers of American Idol, The Search for the Next Great American Band, and another music-themed reality series, Nashville, will air Friday nights. As previously announced, Next Great American Band takes the Idol formula and applies it to bands, and Nashville follows the music industry in Tennessee.

Thursday sees Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? and Kitchen Nightmares, following temperamental chef Gordon Ramsay on the road as he gets restaurants up to snuff. Saturday sees its usual double dose of real justice with Cops and America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back.

As for the network's new dramas, K-Ville, about a pair of cops working the beat in a post-Katrina New Orleans, airs Monday after Prison Break. Come January, the show will open for 24.

New Amsterdam has the daunting task of filling the slot left by ratings magnet American Idol on Tuesdays. The show follows New York homicide detective John Amsterdam, a man who has been granted immortality.

Canterbury's Law, the new legal drama starring Julianna Margulies, will air Thursday at 9 p.m. in January. The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a television spin-off of the Terminator movies, debuts in January on Sunday at 9 p.m.

The lone comedy getting liftoff this fall is the network's prize possession Back to You, which will air on Tuesday nights. The show stars television stalwart Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton as coanchors at a local news station.

Laughers debuting in January include The Return of Jezebel James, starring Parker Posey as a woman who asks her estranged sister to carry a child for her, and The Rules for Starting Over, a show about 30-year-olds getting back into the dating scene.

    May 20, 2007
  • sistersun

Wow! Reality *thrives* on FOX! Not happy about Bones on Friday, though. The Return of Jezebel James (with Lauren Ambrose, from Six Feet Under) and Sarah Connor Chronicles sound like shows I'd tune in to see. And there's always the challenge of finding out if "24" can present us with a terror the US has *not* faced already...

    May 20, 2007
  • peggy777

Reality shows have got beaten into the ground already; I cannot take it anymore. I'd watch "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" if I didn't think fox would cancel the show.

  • ILUVSCOFIELD

The only show I'm excited about is Prison Break's reaturn. I hate that there will be another huge gap in between airings, but as long as it comes back in the spring I'm happy. Honestly, the new shows that are coming out seem to really be crappy. The only reason I watch Fox is for Prison Break. So, after 8 p.m. on Mondays I don't have to watch Fox again.

    yah house is back

  • manders4000

Nothing sounds too great. I bet that most of these new shows will be cancelled. I'm guessing that Kitchen Nightmares will be the first to go since it's in the highly competitve spot that had a part in killing The O.C. I don't know what FOX was thinking. Their highest rated show to put in that slot would be American Idol. Other than 24, none of their other shows would survive there. Maybe I'm just a cynical O.C. fan.

bones on a friday??? there goes another good show. not shocking, fox is horrid at schedules.

    May 18, 2007
  • firefly317

I so hope Bones doesn't get a Friday timeslot. Last year they said it would switch when American Idol premiered, but it didn't, mainly because shows got canceled. And trust me a lot of these will end very soon, all of these upfronts are very indefinite, especially when it comes to FOX.

    Oops I mean Friday

  • crazy_chick37

Oh my, Bones on a Saturday in Spring??

The Simpsons should be the only animated show on Sunday maybe King Of The Hill.

    May 18, 2007
  • Dakotagirl823

House is the only reason that I tune into FOX. There are a few shows that I think look very promising, The Sara Conners Chronicles, New Amsterdam, and Back To You. Hopefully, FOX will give some of them a far chance before cancelling them.

    May 18, 2007
  • Amanti2007

    Family Guy
    The Simpsons
    Sarah Conner Chronicles
    24
    House
    AMW
    MADtv
    Cops

I'll watch those, but that's it.
    Bones
    Prison Break

I wonder how many episodes these shows will air before they get canceled.

    May 18, 2007
  • LincolnBurrows

Other than TSCC, I bet all these new Fox shows will go the way of Vanished, etc. Fox is far too stupid to keep shows around long enough for people to actually get into them. While I might have hated Vanished, I don't feel as if Justice or The Wedding Bells ever got a fair shake. So why bother trying to get into something like K-Ville if they'll just pull it after three episodes? Most of the shows which start before The World Series probably won't return afterwards. It just seems like the Fox way.

    May 18, 2007
  • CAPNDEL

I've got a funny feeling that most of the new shows will be cancelled in a few weeks of their premiere.

    May 18, 2007
  • MemnochZERO

Sarah Connor Chronicles on a Sunday? That's pretty cool. I'll be honest, the past few years of Sundays filled with straight animation on FOX kinda left me.. well, looking for entertainment elsewhere. It was fine for a while, but this year I've found I've been forgetting to put on King of the Hill, then loosing interest halfway through Family Guy, then turning it back (if I remember) for American Dad (or skipping Fox all together). But I miss the days of The X-Files on Sunday night. Hopefully TSCC will be awesome, not get cancelled, and Sundays won't be boring at 9 PM anymore.
Also, pretty excited to see Prison Break, House, and 24 back, i just hope they'll get the premier dates for House and Prison Break out soon.

I will tune in <i>New Amsterdamm</i> & <i>Sarah Conner Chronicles</i> and of course <i>Gordon Ramsay of "Kitchen Nightmares"</i>. No too sure about the other shows, I might just take a peek and see what happens.

I don't understand why House gets the post-Superbowl slot... Don't get me wrong, I love House, but that timeslot always launches shows into the very top of television, and House is already there... Why not Bones, even 24, which has been getting low ratings for the past season or two... Or the new show The Sarah Connor Chronicles? It would make the show a huge hit, no doubt...

    May 18, 2007
  • GODHOOD

New Amsterdam might be interesting, just as long as the producers/writers don't start having flashbacks in every episode. They've done that on Highlander and Forever Knight. I don't mind learning about the character's past but don't overdo it. Also giving the Sarah Conner Chronicles a shot, plus there's nothing on Sunday night I watch when it comes to drama series. I'm really tired of all these reality TV shows, I hope it back fires for FOX.

ya this is the old same old i hate that they will rely on reality shows i hate them well not all but most =)

I'm glad that House is returning, upset that The War at Home is not. Those are the only 2 shows I watch on FOX.

I'm glad that Bones and House are returning. However, I'm disappointed that Standoff will not be returning this fall at least. I think it is a great show with tons of potential. Back to You sounds like an interesting show, as well as several of the new comedies Fox is putting on. All in all, this should be a great year!
