Fox orders extra Standoff, 'Til Death

Death will live on, and the Standoff won't end.

Fox has ordered nine more episodes of ratings-challenged Brad Garrett sitcom 'Til Death. The show has floundered on Thursday nights, where it faces competition from NBC's comedies My Name Is Earl and The Office and ABC's Ugly Betty. The most recent new episode of Death earned a scant 4.6 million viewers.

Standoff, about romantically involved hostage negotiators, got an order for six more episodes--Fox says it won't need more episodes because heavy hitters American Idol and 24 will be returning in January. The show earned 5.5 million viewers in its most recent Tuesday night episode, while time-slot follower House nearly tripled that.

Fox has shown little mercy with other low-rated freshman series. The network pulled dramas Justice and Vanished for the November sweeps period, and put comedy Happy Hour on indefinite hiatus. Vanished returns on Friday, December 1, and Justice will again be served on Monday, December 11.

I am looking forward to standoff's return. Need something on TV besides reality shows. Idol is ok but is getting old. I do like Brad Garret but his new show does not hold my interest. Hope he gets another chance but in a better thought out show. I could see him playing a smart alleck cop although there are a lot of cop shows out there.

I am looking forward to Standoff's return! I think the show has a lot of potential!

I am so frustrated by the shows they put on and take off the air. Good shows like Justice and Standoff. In my opinion Justice was the best law show on tv in a long time. Each week my husband and I would look forward to watching it. They had everyday people starring in it instead of fake pretty faces that aren't believable in the roles. The best part was at the conclusion of each show you would find out what really happened. Standoff is good but I wouldn't miss it as much as Justice. I agree with someone who posted earlier, reality shows are getting so old. And they really aren't reality. They are scripted and cast just like everything else. What are these networks thinking?!!!

I was wondering when it was coming back ! Thanks :)

  • charmwicked

standoff is returning on march 30th

  • Bones13196

NO! STANDOFF CANNOT STOP AFTER SIX MORE EPISODES! AMERICAN IDOL SHOULD NOT BE PUT FIRST!

  • Upset33

It's ridiculous already.. Just when shows get really intersting and you develop a relationship with a character or characters they have to pull the plug on the show. Justice, I think, an excellent show gets pulled. Why because the big shots aren't making the big bucks?? Vanished another good show.. Reality shows are getting old already.. Some might say crime drama's are too, but the crime drama one's interest me the most. Standoff another excellent show..I work hard all day long. I get excited knowing I had Justice, Vanished, Standoff to look forward to. I love Prison Break as well.. I could care leass about how some lady goes to people's houses to fix their kids problems or some high-strung -money bags- miss no it all has to go live somewhere and make do with the less fortunate somewhere in the trailer park.. Enough.... I Justice, Vanished, and Standoff back!!!!!!!!!!!!moreless

I'm glad to see that Til Death is getting more time to let people see how really good it is. Especially the "grown-ups," Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher. The young couple next door could use some punch in their acting. But the scripts are great. I have heard all the gripes about "Til Death" but I have to wonder if the complainers are **not** middle-aged- ? If you are middle-aged-- which I think the writers are-- this is a FUNNY, idenfiable show!

I love that they picked up standoff for more episodes i love that show it's awesome

  • italian_bella10

i agree with paulcornelius Brad should have done the spin-off that would have been getting way better ratings than "Death" it'll be cancelled when American Idol comes back...

  • firefly317

FOX's new shows are all really unoriginal this year. I really hope they get what they deserve for canceling Firefly . . .

What's wrong with you people????, FOX kept Standoff because it held 5.5 million viewers against the ABC powerhouse Dancing with the B,C,D and E list Stars. There is nothing out there on TV that was going to touch ABC's show on Tuesday nights. What the ^&%#@*! was Justice up against when all it could muster was 1.9 million?????, it was on a steady decline from the start. Poor writing and over the top acting by a fine actor (Garber) killed that show. Cripes I watched it twice, tried to give it a chance and I cringed each time. In this world of reality show garbage, FOX chose to go with a show that breaks from the norm, we aren't waiting around for our favorite leads to be involved, we are getting a fresh angle at a show about relationships. If you watched Standoff and were wanting to see an other run of the mill show about FBI agents with interesting plots, then you have a run of the mill response to the back six getting ordered. The producers of Standoff never intended this show to be about waiting and watching and procedure, it's getting into a relationship via a whole new route. If you are the average viewer, you can't get it, can you?

On one sentence for FOX execs here,- I question your total backing for Standoff when it is clearly producing you viewers by the tune of two hundred percent plus over that so called comedy Til Death. Wake up.moreless

I really liked Justice. It wasn't one I just watched kinda bored because there was nothing else on. I actually looked forward to and enjoyed it. I liked the premise, the story lines, & I even liked every member of the cast & found all their characters to be interesting and to play well off each other. I was very disappointed to hear that Fox is tanking it. I watch standoff too. It's alright. Between the two of them Justice is way more compelling and just better.

  • mikeboskie

standoff isnt that bad...it keeps my attention...but i too am puzzled as to why they would keep this show and not justice...fox wonders why it is a 2nd rate network

  • porkouk

FOX have lost the plot! Vanished was just starting to get interesting when they pull the plug on it!

The good news is that the remaining episodes are now going to be available via MySpace TV:

  • sadisfied

Cancel 'Til Death. Ripoff of Married With Children.

  • minimax34

Fox is not having its best year.

  • redthor

Brad Garrett's sitcom 'Til Death should be put out of our misery. Brad is good, but the cast as a whole has no chemistry.

  • jade92264

I wanna see Justice back :( It's a much better show than Standoff!

  • doyn

Standoff is not a lead in. They need to have House lead into Standoff.

  • Itishalfempty

Justice was doing pretty good until it faced Heroes. Fox was stupid to cancel it.

  • SuperBilly1

these shows are just filler-shows until 24 and american idol come back

  • jthunders

Fox doesn't care about either of these shows. All they care about are American Idol, 24, Prison Break, House, So You Think You Can Dance and The Simpsons. Everything else is filler...

  • rob_din

Cancelling Justice and Vanished and saving Standoff is the most absurd decision FOX has ever made. And they've made quite a few

  • mammalazz

Well first off the two on standoff are just dating and not married and next I can not believe fox kept this one and did not keep justice that is so not nice of them

  • PerfectDark0Fan

Cancel Justice and keep Standoff wow, and stadoff is stugguling in ratings.

  • MistaC87

They save Standoff but are slashing Vanished. What a network.

  • paulcornelius

Poor Brad. His show is bad. Not much to save it. I really wanted it to work, too. He should have done a Raymond spinoff.
