Fox has given a series order to Weird Loners and picked up three comedy pilots and one drama pilot with an eye towards series production, TVGuide.com has learned.
Weird Loners is the story of four relationship-phobic people who are unexpectedly thrust into each other's lives and form an unlikely bond in a Queens, New York townhouse. The single-camera comedy, written by Michael Weithom who will executive-produce with Jake Kasdan (New Girl), was given a six-episode series order.
Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki is an executive producer on an untitled comedy from Ricky Blitt (Romantically Challenged), who wrote the project and will also executive-produce with Stephen McPherson. The multi-camera comedy revolves around a mom (Malcolm in the Middle's Jane Kaczmarek) who has been single for two decades and traumatizes her stunted 30-something son with a little surprise -- she just got married and her new husband and his three teenage children are about to move in.
From The Butler's Lee Daniels and Game Change's Danny Strong, Empire is a unique family drama set in the world of a hip-hop empire that will feature both original and current music. Daniels and Strong will write and executive-produce with Brian Grazer (24) and Francie Calfo (How to Live with Your Parents).
Sober Companion is about a charming, but self-destructive attorney who finds his world turned upside down when a court-appointed, and highly unconventional, sober companion takes control of his life. David S. Rosenthal (Gilmore Girls) and Jennie Snyder Urman (90210) will write and executive-produce.
Dead Boss, based on the UK series of the same name, is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister to prove her innocence. Patricia Breen (Suburgatory) will write and executive-produce with Aaron Kaplan (Terra Nova), Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh.
