Fox Sets Midseason Premiere Dates for The Following, Touch, and a Singing Show

Fox has sorted out its midseason calendar, and it's full of serial killers, a weird kid obsessed with making people happy, and your mom's next favorite milquetoast pop artist. That's right, the network's early 2013 premiere dates are here! Woohoo, party.

American Idol returns for its twelfth cycle with a two-part premiere on Wednesday, January 16 (two hours) and Thursday, January 17 (one hour). The new season will feature the latest buffet table of judges, which includes Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey's ego, Mariah Carey's jealousy, Keith Urban as the man who has no idea what he's getting himself into, and old reliable Randy Jackson.

The Following, Fox's gory new drama from Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries), gets the Monday-at-9pm slot starting January 21. Kevin Bacon stars as an FBI agent who hunts down a serial killer who's created a cult of copycats through the internet what yes you read that correctly. It tested very high among critics during pilot-viewing season, but I watched it with horror-expert Price Peterson and we were all like, "What the?" So I'm sure it will be a hit. The Following will take over for The Mob Doctor, which we're all surprised is still on the air.

Touch, which had been scheduled to return this month before getting bumped for Kitchen Nightmares, will now come back for Season 2 on Friday, February 1 at 9pm. Touch will take over the spot vacated by Fringe after it wraps up its final season (*sniff*).

Fox still hasn't set a premiere date for new comedy The Goodwin Games, but it will probably take over for Ben and Kate on Tuesday nights when that series' not-quite-full-season 19-episode order is up. Let's call it a "spring 2013" debut.

Question: How many times do you think Mariah Carey will jump over Keith Urban to strangle Nicki Minaj in the next season of American Idol?

Looking forward to The Following & Season 2 of Touch, kinda of cheesed off Keith Urban's a judge on American Idol, instead of a Judge/ Mentor on The Voice: Australia

I'm still amazed that people actually watch American Idol. I can proudly say that I've never bothered to tune in. Can anyone else say that?

I've seen a few random seconds as I'm walking through the room while my Mom is watching. That doesn't count, does it?

To be fair, the first half of The Following's pilot is EXCELLENT. The second half is very "Um... Srsly?"

I thought the finale episode of Fringe was to air Feb 1st. Now I'm confused.

Ah, well... renewing Touch was a mistake to begin with, and now they know it. It's a shame when they choose between two shows and always pick the loser (V vs. Flash Forward, etc.) only to see their chosen one nose-dive at the beginning of the second season, if not before.

**sniff** indeed! I never thought Touch would really catch on, but whatever FOX has to tell itself to be able to get out of bed in the morning. The Following does sound interesting and I can't say no to Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy together in a show about serial killers.

"One of"

But I get it. You're obviously too stupid to be a Fringe fan.

Right. Anyone who doesn't like exactly what YOU like is stupid.

You don't even know the content of the comment I was responding to, because they deleted their post. Context is important, Wiseguy.

Question for "Touch": How do you replace one of the greatest shows of all time? ...

YOU DON"T!

I now have to hate you on principle. Good luck surviving, Touch.

Just because a series takes over a time slot doesn't mean it has anything to do with the other series ending. Hate a TV series? Grow up.

The fact of Nicki Minaj now being a judge, solidifies me NOT watching Idol anymore. If it were just Urban, Carey and Jackson that'd be awesome but can't stand Minaj. Needed an excuse anyway, haha. Following sounds like a possibility being from the Vampire Diaries guy.

I'm not sure if I'll watch the second season of Touch or not. I think moving it to Feb. may have hurt it for me. I've lost all enthusiasm for it during the past few months, and there's still another few months until it airs. It wasn't good enough for me to anxiously wait for it...
