Fox has sorted out its midseason calendar, and it's full of serial killers, a weird kid obsessed with making people happy, and your mom's next favorite milquetoast pop artist. That's right, the network's early 2013 premiere dates are here! Woohoo, party.
American Idol returns for its twelfth cycle with a two-part premiere on Wednesday, January 16 (two hours) and Thursday, January 17 (one hour). The new season will feature the latest buffet table of judges, which includes Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey's ego, Mariah Carey's jealousy, Keith Urban as the man who has no idea what he's getting himself into, and old reliable Randy Jackson.
The Following, Fox's gory new drama from Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries), gets the Monday-at-9pm slot starting January 21. Kevin Bacon stars as an FBI agent who hunts down a serial killer who's created a cult of copycats through the internet what yes you read that correctly. It tested very high among critics during pilot-viewing season, but I watched it with horror-expert Price Peterson and we were all like, "What the?" So I'm sure it will be a hit. The Following will take over for The Mob Doctor, which we're all surprised is still on the air.
Touch, which had been scheduled to return this month before getting bumped for Kitchen Nightmares, will now come back for Season 2 on Friday, February 1 at 9pm. Touch will take over the spot vacated by Fringe after it wraps up its final season (*sniff*).
Fox still hasn't set a premiere date for new comedy The Goodwin Games, but it will probably take over for Ben and Kate on Tuesday nights when that series' not-quite-full-season 19-episode order is up. Let's call it a "spring 2013" debut.
Question: How many times do you think Mariah Carey will jump over Keith Urban to strangle Nicki Minaj in the next season of American Idol?
