Fox, Spielberg have Lot going on in summer

Just in time for blockbuster season at the megaplexes, Fox will premiere the Steven Spielberg reality TV show on May 16.

On the Lot is an elimination-style contest among aspiring filmmakers that culminates with the winner receiving a $1 million development deal with Spielberg's DreamWorks production company.

Lot is set to bow in a Wednesday berth and then move to a Monday-Tuesday rotation for the rest of the summer. On May 28, the 16 finalists will be revealed, and their first film efforts will be screened. On May 29, the first four contestants will be eliminated in what Lot has dubbed the "box office results" show at 8 p.m. for May 16.

Spielberg and DreamWorks Television are partnered on the series with reality guru Mark Burnett.

As for the rest of Fox's summer schedule, the network will bring back So You Think You Can Dance on Thursday, May 24, before it settles into its regular Wednesday-Thursday rotation of performance and results shows at 8 p.m. (The May 30 edition will be a two-hour installment.)

Returning comedy The Loop is back on Sundays starting June 10 in the 9:30 p.m. slot. The cooking competition show Hell's Kitchen is getting fired up again for a June 25 premiere in the Monday 8 p.m. slot.

I never watch any reality shows, but since this show might showcase actual filmmaking talent, I'll give it a go!

This show has great potential on the network. And the fact of the matter is, the people will be judged on their TALENT. Most reality shows based on professionals really come off well (for example: Top Chef, American Idol, Project Runway).
