Foxtel, Microsoft create remote-recording widget

Foxtel has paired up with Microsoft to develop a new Foxtel TV Guide Gadget, which will enable PC users to access Foxtel's TV guide directly from their desktop.

Subscribers who already own a Foxtel iQ or iQ2 box will be able to program their remote recordings into the box up to a fortnight in advance, from any internet connection worldwide.

Subscribers with older boxes will be able to view a guide of future broadcasts, search by key word and create a list of "favourites".

"With so many people now online for a significant period of time every day, the Foxtel TV Guide Gadget removes the need to search for the Foxtel TV Guide or even type in a URL.

The Foxtel TV Guide Gadget is great for quickly searching for a program and recording it -- if you're logged on you can search for your favourite show and send a Remote Record request all in a few seconds." said Foxtel executive director of Product and Sales, Patrick Delany.

A Foxtel account and Microsoft Silverlight is required, but otherwise the widget can be found here: foxtel.com.au/gadget.

A Mac widget is expected in the coming weeks.
