Foxtel summer set to sizzle

Gossip Girl's second season is set to return to FOX8 in December. The affluent teen drama starring Blake Lively and Leighton Meester is back from 8:30pm, Tuesday, December 9.

Brimming with scandal, hook-ups, lies and backstabbing, the series developed by The OC's Josh Schwartz has been a big, fat hit on Pay TV. The second season also has a full complement of 24 episodes.

And fans of Adrian Grenier will be pleased to hear Entourage returns at 8:30pm, Sunday, December 7, on Arena. There are some familiar faces amongst the 12 episodes airing in the fifth season: The View's Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck as themselves, Eric Roberts, Seth Green, Gary Cole and Jason Patric.

American Idol will once again be seen on Aussie screens just hours after it has aired in the US. FOX8 will launch the eighth series in January with Simon, Randy and Paula. Next year the series adds a fourth judge in Grammy-nominated composer, Kara DioGuardi. She was one of four co-writers on Kylie Minogue’s "Spinning Around" along with one Paula Abdul!

But one of the more intriguing new Australian shows is The Phone, to be hosted by Justin Melvey. In each episode two phones will be hidden in one city at random places. When a member of the public answers a call, the fun begins.... It premieres 8.30pm, Monday, January 19 on FOX8.

Also due in 2009 are further seasons of Australia's Next Top Model (with new host Sarah Murdoch), Project Runway Australia, Blood Sweat & Gears, Football Superstar and a local version of the boxing reality series The Contender.

You know I was just wondering when Entourage was coming back, it seemed so long ago that season 4 ended. The Phone sounds good, though I could care less about Gossip Girl.
