Friday Afternoon Distractions

Whiling away your last few hours at work? These videos should help make time fly extra fast!

The host nations for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups were announced in the wee small hours of the morning, with Qatar's successful bid for the 2022 tournament devastating Aussies around the globe.

Many are blaming the quality of the bid video for our loss, so what do you think? Make our dream come true? More like the video that crushed our dream...

This Aniboom animation by Brush Limbaux is described as demonstrating "weird moments in life [that] would fit perfectly into the TV show Family Guy.

Covering physical disabilities, homophobia, racism and celebrities, we can't decide whether it's a perfect fit or just exploiting the show's "shock" value.

Mix 106.5FM's video announcement of its new Sydney breakfast show lineup sees Daily Telegraph Confidential editor Annette Sharp and Sunday Telegraph gossip columnist Ros Reines playing a board game to work out who the new hosts will be.

The Guess Who game is entertaining, if a bit long, and features a wide variety of media personalities. The ad continues into a spoof of Australia's Next Top Model's season six finale disaster which is more cringe-worthy than funny -- whether you believe the explanation of the error or not.

It's also worrying that the new hosts -- Andrew Rochford and Claire Hooper -- are only featured as a still image at the very end of the ad. With previous hosting duos Mike Etheridge and Carmela Contarino, and Todd McKenney and Sonia Kruger only lasting a year each, hopefully it's not an indication of their breakfast radio abilities...

Finally, AdNews puts together this teaser to introduce its compilation of the top 20 viral ads of 2010. Despite the bland piece to camera by AdNews Australia Deputy Editor Darren Davidson (sorry Darren) and the obvious revelation that advertising companies have had a "breakthrough" in realising that social media plays a big part in successful campaigns -- the ads they've chosen are actually very good.

The highlights include Adidas Originals Star Wars Cantina featuring David Beckham, The Old Spice Guy (of course), Nike's Write the Future World Cup ad, Air New Zealand Happy Hour and more. You can check them all out on AdNews Australia's YouTube channel.
