A former Friends producer is developing a politically themed comedy for ABC.
The network has given a pilot order to the untitled project, which Shana Goldberg-Meehan wrote and will executive-produce. It is described as an ensemble comedy set against a Washington backdrop.
This past development season, Goldberg-Meehan created and executive produced a comedy pilot for ABC that starred Marisa Coughlan and Kaley Cuoco as two very different sisters.
She cocreated, with Scott Silveri, the Friends spin-off Joey and served as executive producer/coshowrunner during the show's first season. Before that, Goldberg-Meehan spent eight seasons on Friends, rising through the ranks to executive producer/coshowrunner.
