Fringe fans, feel free to frolic. Television's best combination of gross-out gore and mind-melting pseudo-science is coming back for a third season. Fox today announced the show's renewal, putting to rest one of television's bigger impending decisions.
The show hasn't exactly killed it in the ratings department since moving to Thursday nights this season, but execs at Fox have always liked the show and decided that, despite the middling numbers, it was worth bringing back for another year.
And thank the lord, because Fringe is shaping up to have one of the season's more intriguing storylines as the producers peel away the layers of this multi-dimensional onion (slight spoilers in the next sentence for those who aren't caught up). Fringe went into its midseason break with the episode called "Jacksonville," in which Olivia was seeing things from the other dimension as shiny, like that guy in Twilight. Among those shining things was Peter Bishop, who is about to get a major bomb dropped on him when he discovers he's actually Alterna-Peter.
The early renewal not only allows the story to continue into a third season, but also lets the writers and producers avoid doing one of those bull-honky season finales that also could serve as a series finale while they wait to learn to the fate of the show.
Fringe returns from its midseason break on Thursday, April 1.

love it!!!
This is amazing news. I love Fringe! I can't wait for April 1 after all of the big twists, turns, and surprises in Jacksonville. It'll be frikkin fantasttic. ;)
yees!! :)
Feel free to FROLIC??? Over what?? The fact that ever network out there has executive staffing that needs frontal lobotomies rather than a bottle in front of me?? Seasonal Disruptive Disorder(or S.D.D.)!!! The newest reasoning for lack of following in ANY genre, ANY channel, ANY show!! Throw on 8-10 episodes of an intelligent show, interrupt for 1-2 months, threaten to cancel due to "poor rating"(read S.D.D.), and look at the results!!!
Why not fire the execs, hire a monkey(with a good arm!!), allow him to fling fesces at the current lineup and there's the returning shows for the next 3 months(next hiatus is what....3 months off for Cinco De Mayo??)
No thanks, I'll wait for the video releases(7 yrs or more!!)
Damn excited for the return! The ending of last season for pivotal...way to go JJ! Now if you can rub some of that back on to Whedon all would be right in the universe :)
Love this show!! Love Peter and Olivia!!!
*happy dance*
So glad.
Awesome show, awesome news. It's going to be a fun ride to the end of Season 2 and thankfully there can be a big cliffhanger. I hope the show gets a clear villian though soon. Someone we can love to hate.
awesome awesome awesome... im so excited i love fringe
AWESOME News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Fox!!!
Big Thank You!! So glad. It deserved a third season.
YESSSSSSSSS
whooohooo!!! great news :)
Meh. The show is plodding. The stand-alone episodes are a poor copy of X-Files (the actors have nowhere near the chemistry of X-people), while the other dimension storyline, after an energetic, fantastic start, felt like an imploded bubble. Also, 22 episodes just means 22x the plodding. Give Abrams 12 episodes to make a truly kick-ass season - this is just taking forever.
Yay!
It's so great that Fringe will be back for another season. JJ's world is unfolding so slowly, which is part of what makes his shows so rich in detail and the characters so unique. FOX has a habit of cancelling shows like that (anyone remember the genius that was Firefly?) before giving them a chance.
I think the next season is shaping up to be good one,i hope so
fringe rocks and FOX is the best of all.
i mean what's not to like about FOX?bones.american idol,so you think you can dance, god blessed prison break,house,24,oh i just go crazy....

great news, really. especially with 22 episodes. now i agree NBC needs to get on that Heroes renewal....
this show is so amazing -- i think it's problem with ratings has to do with people thinking its a show you have to watch from the beginning, which, lets face it, the first half of season one wasn't much better than any of the other one hundred cop-dramas on television. it's IS a show that you can just pick a random episode and watch and still get a lot out of it. WATCH THIS SHOW!! INCREDIBLE!!
=) Great news.
Tim, you're awesome. You watch and write about every show I watch. Whenever I read something interesting in this web it's coming from you :)
FINALLY FOX does something RIGHT! This is the BEST show on television!
Yay! Now Heroes?
Unlimited wierd things in the world to write about, I hope this show last as long as the Simpsons, can't wait to see what season 3 has to offer up!!!
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
whohooooooo!!!!!!!!! Go Fringe!!!
YAY!!!!! jumping with joy :D
