Fringe Has a New Villain, Sort Of

Two dimensional.

...Lisa Kudrow--one of the best there is, period--is producing a new series for Showtime called Rapture based on a memoir about growing up gay in a nutty born-again Christian household. Apparently there's a crazy mother, who has visions of Jesus and all that fun stuff, so let's hope that part goes to Kudrow. [Variety]

...Flashy movie director David Fincher (The Curious Case of Why a Person Who Ages In Reverse and Was Born As a Miniature Old Person Wouldn't Die as a Gigantic Baby, Seriously Think About It) is working on a TV project called House of Cards, a political thriller based on a book and a, naturally, a British TV series. Fincher will produce while screenwriter Eric Roth (also from The Curious Case of the Un-Enormous Elderly Baby) will pen the script. [THR]

...Bald-headed funny person Rob Corddry (The Daily Show, Children's Hospital) has signed what Variety is calling a "rich" deal with Warner Bros. Television. It includes a TV pilot that Corddry will create, produce, and star in. Apparently it's an offbeat family sitcom that parodies family sitcoms the way Children's Hospital skewered sappy medical dramas on ABC that rhyme with "Brays Flanatomy." Color us excited. [Variety]

...OK, show's over. That scam you're running on hopeful child actors is not gonna work anymore, SAG has declared. So pack it in. And get rid of those illegal ferrets too. And the drugs. Just... Just get rid of the drugs. C'mon. Shut the whole thing down. [Variety]

...Sarah Shahi, the Iranian beauty from the short-lived cop series Life has landed the much-coveted lead in a new USA program. She'll play Kate in Kate, about a lawyer who becomes a conflict mediator. Wouldn't it be weird if USA did a show about people not fighting? Like if they did a show called Everyone Loves Each Other and Nothing Is Quirky? Actually, I would settle for just Nothing Is Quirky. Won't happen though. Instead we'll get a series about a doctor who becomes a PI but maybe isn't a real doctor and he lives overseas and it's called Praguenosis. Where's my development deal, USA? [THR]

...An actor named Sebastian Roche has landed a part on Fox's increasingly-trippy hit(ish) series Fringe. He'll play some sort of villain, one who is, of course, from the other dimension thing and is maybe part robot and he'll probably either be one of those scary strong silent type of villains or one of those slick, wisecracking ones. Those seem to the two ways villain sauce is made these days. (Well there is also sexy lady villain, but I doubt he'll be playing that kind of part. Though, you never know. Different dimensions and all.) And, hah, actually the character apparently already appeared on the October 8th episode, just played by a different actor. So you tell me. What sort of villain is he? Actually, Sebastian Roche is listed as a guest in TV.com's episode guide for Fringe, "Momentum Deferred". It would be odd to change actors after the leader's face has been shown so clearly in that episode. Could someone please clear that up? Is the episode guide or the article wrong? Fringe is a very good sci-fi/paranormal series, one of the best directed and most interesting out there. The plotline is a little bit complicated and maybe difficult to follow for someone entirely unfamiliar with modern science theories. I don't know why it doesn't do well in the ratings, but I think it's one of the best out there. Plus, the "villains" are far from cliche, in fact given the questions that arise from the story, they generate a lot of interest.

I love Fringe, I just hope they do not take it too far in one way or another. It will get silly.

I will be very surprised if Fringe lives to realize a 3rd season. Some episodes are well done -- but too many are sloppy. I'm just sayin'...

Yeah, stupid robots and other dimensions, what's it trying to be, a science fiction show? C'mon! Fringe definitely needs more of that so utterly interesting relationship soap, just like Heroes and Flash Forward have. What are the producers thinking!?

TVWatcher71, apparently it was in fact a different actor on the 10/8 episode. Roche just got cast in the past couple days.

The whole other dimension thing is turing me off of Fringe. Robots from other dimensions...come on.

Sebastian Roche has been appearing as villian Jerry Jacks on General Hospital off and on for the last few years and he's the henchman Jack Bauer dispatched with a screwdriver on 24 last year. And that was him in the 10/8 episode of Fringe. Or his head anyway. :)
