Fringe star fired?

Kirk Acevedo, in happier times.

We've seen celebrities use Facebook and Twitter to let their fans know what they're eating, where they're travelling, and other mundane facts, but we're also seeing more and more celebrities use the social networking tools to let people know when they're plain-old pissed off about their job.

The latest to join the ranks of venom-spewing Facebookers is Kirk Acevedo, who plays Agent Charlie Francis on Fox's Fringe. And if what he says is true, some Fringe faithful may become as ticked off as he is.

Acevedo allegedly posted the following in his Facebook status field (taken verbatim, caps and all): "WELL BOYS AND GIRLS THEY DONE DID YER BOY WRONG! THEY FIRED ME OFF OF FRINGE,AND I'VE NEVER BEEN FIRED IN MY LIFE!!!!" (blog ohnotheydidn't broke the story and has a screen cap of the Facebook page.)

Well, he certainly doesn't sound too happy. Shows everywhere are trimming budgets as networks clamp down on spending, and one easy way to ease wallet-emptying is by replacing better-known actors with cheaper, up-and-coming actors (just ask the producers of One Tree Hill).

We'll let you know when we hear more, but for now, consider yourself in the loop. And Kirk, ease off on the all caps please!

i liked the guy but his role was small and not too interesting

Kirk is a very talented actor (I loved his work on "Oz" and "Band of Brothers"), but his character in "Fringe" was peripheral at best. The focus was and always will be on Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble and Lance Reddick. It's a shame Kirk will no longer be there, but it won't be a deal breaker for the fans.

I won't miss him at all. In fact, I'd have him on my personal Characters that need to be killed off list if I made one, so it's a good decision IMO. Kirk Acevedo is all right, I guess, but the character was hopeless and pointless.

noo..he's the reason I got into watching this show..josh jacksons good but he made it better..

No! I really like his character, I think it was a BIG mistake to get rid of him. Charlie and Olivia had good chemistry between them and it was nice that she could confide in him when another strange thing happens. I assume he will be in at the start of the next season to kill him off or whatever, but seriously on what grounds do they have to take him out of the show?!

This is ridiculous! He's such a good actor and so underused on the show. What more could people want from him though, he was playing the part written for him; of course many are going to consider him non-essential. I disagree though, as others have said, he and Olivia had great chemistry and he plays a great friend. Too bad his character was married, but I suppose not every friendship needs to evolve into a more serious relationship. How are they going to get rid of him though, just stop writing him in altogether or kill him off? I suppose they want to add more females to the show, as I've read that they are casting for a female FBI agent. I don't understand how much they are cutting costs though unless the new actor is completely unknown. Maybe something happened between Kirk and the network/producers. I hope he's back on TV soon, maybe an OZ revival - oh Miguel!moreless

NO! He's such a key character. What will they do? Say he died? Well knowing Fringe, some kind of wierd explanation will be made.

Wait, they just up and fired him and are gonna make some other actor play the same character? That is very strange and something I havent seen done on TV for a little while now.

Granted, I never thought Kirk was that great of an actor. I guess part of it is Oz, I can never stop thinking of him as a chriminal, but he also doesn't seem to....do much... I guess. He has the raspy voice and the gruff exterior, but I dunno he just didn't seem to be that amazing of a character anyway. Actually, I was a little surprised how he justed kind of floated from being some higher up FBI dude that uknowingly did Olivia favors without knowing what they were for to "being part of the team". Did he really ever get briefed on the whole thing?moreless

Maybe he can pick up a "demon" role on supernatural. That would be cool.

I know this is going to be a "blond moment" but what is the "CW"? The articles keep relating to e.g. The CW won't be picking up.... etc. Obviously it's a network, but which one? Thanks

Why? He was so awesome... How dare they? (now I'm sad)

I really like Charlie; he's always there for Olivia. I hope this isn't true. If so, it sucks. :(

I liked his character... Darn producers :(

He should maybe join a bunch of his former castmates (OZ) on Dexter he is latin and the show is set Miami I think he would be a good fit. Also I think he would be good on the Unusuals also has former castmates (OZ). My name is Earl got cancelled now this.

That's too bad. But his character did seem kinda redundant. I wonder if he couldn't make the move to Vancouver? Or if writers just didn't know what to do with him? Or if it was just all about $$$.

  • amber8032

Can't believe they would do something like that. Charlie is one of the main characters in Fringe, they can't do such a thing to the show, the audience and to Kirk himself! I can't understand this networks and what are they thinking when they do things like this!

    May 25, 2009
  • darkfallenange

This sucks like Hell, Charlie had more chemistry with Olivia that Peter did. And seriously Kirk is a really a good actor and it will really sucks to see him go.

I don't watch this show, but I remember him. He was really good.

Good actor, cool guy, but he didn't do much in fringe...heck, there are lots of them.

    May 23, 2009
  • Lostrules1

I doubt that it's true but if it is it won't be the biggest loss in TV history, one or two of the characters in Fringe seem useless at times and Acevedo's is one of them.

  • sleepydumbdude

I hope not. I thought he was going to die on that episode this seasons with those things eating him from his insides. I'll be bummed if he leaves.

According to the link for "FRINGE" on ONTD's page, a TV GUIDE ARTICLE
says the producer DENIES that he's been fired and says Kirk will be back
for season 2.....for whatever that's worth.

Producers don't lie. ;->

But he is the definition of an FBI Agent :(

    May 22, 2009
  • Llama_of_Drama

Good actor vs. dumb network execs/show runners.....@ ohnotheydidn't it says that now their's a casting call for a FEMALE FBI agent....why fire one and hire another....basically if ain't broke, don't fix it!

hes awesome. i understand why hes pissed about it i sure am.

I loved Charlie. He had better chemistry with Olivia anyway. He was a huge asset to the show and I'll miss him.

    May 22, 2009
  • braigo64

So who at the FBI will Olivia be requesting assistance from now? Or is alternate-dimension Peter going to fill that role too?

I like his chrachter in the show. Sorry for him. Good luck...

Even Hollywood has to experience downsizing I guess. Too bad, I liked the character...

    May 21, 2009
  • Jeric-Ho

It is a shame, although he was never my favourite character he never really had a chance to shine and he was only just becoming to understand what was going on! If it is true then I feel for Kirk as nobody deserves to be fired for doing nothing wrong! I also wonder how his character is going to play out? before they fired him they must have shot some scenes of his death/departure? they can't just not have him in the show any more and not explain where he went!

    May 21, 2009
  • thefanof

Good, he annoyed me to no end.

    May 21, 2009
  • haldrey

    Well, not really needed.

    May 21, 2009
  • Beckacheck

His character was so boring, I always assumed he'd turn out to be evil and have been secretly working for the enemy all along. I thought he'd be good at playing that flip. Too bad.

    May 21, 2009
  • yobar23

Bummer, though it didn't seem like he had much of a role anyway. I liked him more in HBO's Oz.

    May 21, 2009

oh no, he was great on that role :(

Good job losing an amazing actor!!

    May 21, 2009
  • natejohnstone

I hope it's not true as well, but if it is I hope that they at least do it well--meaning that his character dies heroically in the season premier or something as opposed to just..."yer through!"
