Fringe's New Promo: The Observers Tell You Sheep to Stay in Line (VIDEO)

The best promo team in all of television is back at it again with this new teaser for the fifth and final season of Fringe. Consider it one of those "The More You Know" PSA ads, but instead of a celebrity working off community service for a DUI, it's a bald guy in a hat telling the public that they will be brainwashed if they don't obey their new overlords. Fun!

We're expecting Season 5 (or at least a portion of it) to take place in 2036, the same year the excellent episode "Letters of Transit" was set in. If your mind hasn't been wiped and you can recall, in the year 2036, the Observers were running things and partying to Observer techno while Fringe Division agents served as the Observers' bitches and policed the "native population" (regular humans).

That was Captain Winmark, leader of the Observers, telling you to keep in line or get a healthy dose of Forget-Me-Nows. For those of you wondering what that flash was around the 0:36 mark, here's a screencap. Looks like La Resistance lives on!

Fringe returns September 28 at 9pm.

I really hate the directtion they took dont make the Observers the bad guys

I really like the Observers plot right from the start of the show

but I saw them as some higher beings some who will help humanity not

destroy it

This look like the Kromaggs crap from the Sliders show.

It destoried that show It will destroy this one

There's always been conflict betweern observers, although their deadpan delivery doesn't always make it obvious. September's final scenes hinted at a schism, and in an early episode they also showed an observer with a heart (I forget his "month") running afoul of the party line. This plotline has been forshadowed. I doubt it will feel like an afterthought.

Last season for a show that deserves at least a few more seasons... TV life is so unfair. Nonetheless, I do hope to see a spectacular and focused arc.

What a great show. And still great promos. If I ever make a TV show (unlikely times 1000), I will attempt to get every single member of this promo team to make my promos because however they work, their results are spectacular.

It really seems like the show is going downhill. A simple war against evil Observers? I was convinced that Letters of transit was just a "what if"-scenario. This doesn't feel the least interesting or complex. I just hope there is more to the story than this, but I'm sceptical after the disastrous finale.

Letters of transit clearly wasn't a what if scenario. I'm guessing this will be like Dollhouse. The season will continue on the present time/timeline/universe/dimension/space&time continuum and then the end of the season we'll revisit the Letters of Transit episode and see how it all ended.

Or they might spend more time in the future, don't know..

Well it felt a bit like the what if future scenario of the finale of seaon three, where Broyles had a damaged eye, and they were referring to some incident in the past, that to me would have been more intriguing than some good v.s bad thing..

I'm immune to brainwashing. My mind is just too complex to be manipulated. I'm like the Fort Knox of mental acuity ....

Okay, there WAS that time I impulsively shaved my head and had everybody I know refer to me as "October" for a few months, but I'm pretty sure that was all me.

Also, 23 DAYS LEFT, BABY!

Very glad they're involving the 2036 story. That episode from last season was so good it would be a shame if it had no impact. Yay!

i still wish we had more seasons before we get to 2036!.. oh well! The perils of being part of the native population!!.

I can't wait to see this season, I absolutely LOVED that episode. I love it when a show knows itself well enough to change its surroundings entirely, and Fringe has always been about that.
