FX Renews The Strain for Season 3

The Strain epidemic will not be contained! FX has picked up the vampire thriller/family drama for Season 3, the network announced during the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday. TV.com's own Tim Surette, who recently called the show "consistently mediocre and just barely good enough to continue watching," was unavailable for comment, but it's probably safe to say the news was met with a half-hearted shrug and then a shot of whiskey.

"Guillermo [del Toro] and Carlton [Cuse] have delivered two thrilling seasons of The Strain that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans' high expectations in the process," Eric Schrier, Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions, said in a statement. "We're excited to see them carry this powerful story into a third season on FX."

Season 2 of The Strain currently airs on Sundays at 10pm on FX.

I'm waiting for New Yorkers to realise vampires are dangerous. Tsk, nothing surprises them anymore.

Torn about it. OOH it's good so story goes on. OTOH it's bad that story has no clear endline in sight.

I think this show would work best as something with predetermined number of eps, a miniseries, if you wish. I think that in the end when all is said and done and all vamps are dead will pretend season 2 never happened.

Could be worse. Hope they at least have the sense to kill off the kid.

To go against popular opinion (I guess), I enjoy this show even if it's not highbrow entertainment. I'm glad it's been renewed.

Regardless of its quality, it generates decent ratings (though declining since the Season 2 premiere) for FX on the very competitive Sunday evenings so hardly a surprise...

As ludicrous as the plot is (most of the time), it does better than (the vastly superior IMO) Mr. Robot or Dark Matter and Dominion...

It's really bad. To be fair, I NEVER like things adapted from comics. But I think it's just one step up from unwatchable and I was so disappointed b/c I love scary/supernatural.

First of all this is adapted from books not comics, and second of all there have been made good shows out of comics.

The show is entertaining. I'm personally happy about the renewal. I hope they push the quality up, and never go back to season 1 standards.

Personally I'd consider Tim's reviews "consistently mediocre and not even barely good enough to continue reading" :)

Wow, really? I have to say I didn't anticipate that. Poor FX, all they have is The Americans now.

"doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans' high expectations in the process"

Wrong! So very very incredibly wrong. As a fan of the novels I take great exception to this statement.

I love the series and I love the first novel. I am currently reading the second one before I watch the second season. I don't think anything could compare to the books. The first one stayed with me for a long time, but I'm just glad they are doing a television series instead on a movie.

Season 2 has been an improvement, even though the random recast of the kid was jarring and, while I don't dislike Max Charles in general, turned the character into an annoyance. Really, you tried to fricken run away, at night, while vampires who shoot whatever it is out of their throats to eat you are roaming around? stupid.

as long as FX/X never cancels You're The Worst!

i think the strain's been great. i think a few more episodes each season would allow for them to flesh out some storylines but overall im impressed with the storytelling and pace of the show.

id like to see kelly "evolve" so she's like eichhorst as soon as possible.
