Game of Thrones: Check Out the Ominous Season 5 Poster, Plus Two New Clips (VIDEO)

Screw winter, Game of Thrones’ chilling and ominous new key art is all about dragons.

The poster, which HBO released Friday to promote the fantasy drama's highly anticipated fifth season, features Peter Dinklage’s Tyrion Lannister on a ship, with one of Daenerys’s (Emilia Clarke) dragons looming overhead:

Meanwhile, as a bonus treat, the network has also released two new clips from Season 5. The first one features Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and a captured Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds). The second involves Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and her trusty squire, Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman).

Watch them both below:

Game of Thrones Season 5 premieres Sunday, April 12 at 9pm on HBO.

I liked how the show finally adressed Mance is the Rick Grimes of the Game of Thrones's apocalyse: The King Beyond the Wall isn't doing this for power, he's crossing the wildlings because otherwise none of them will survive.

I don't like it. It looks very cheesy & amateur, which are words I would never use to describe anything GoT related but alas. It looks like something a run o' the mill fanboy made in order to get people who don't read the books back into the show and I'm not impressed

I have to agree. When I saw this poster on Facebook I also thought it was fan-made.

Ive had that same picture of Drogon saved on my tablet for months now. All they did was composite an old picture of Tyrion, the prow of a boat, a season 4 episode 6 screengrab of the dragon & some fog (which is play in and of it self of a potential scene from the books) together and put it out there lol I actually when I first saw it didn't believe it was an authentic HBO ad but fanmade

It's obnoxious how they shamelessly cut corners like that. I'm not sure why but posters seem like they're the worst form of promotional material these days. A lot of them are very lazily put together and just look horribly designed. I miss the old-school illustrated posters that they used to do.

I think that Tyrion is going to be riding a dragon before this show is over. I am not a book reader, I am waiting for the series to end before I read the books. I am loving watching the show and do not want to get ahead of it. Tyrion has been such a main character, and I kind of hope that he and his wife end up together again and working as a team. With a dragon, they will be unstoppable! Both have come a long way in the show, and I hope to see them succeed after all of the shit they have had to put up with!

Shame he's married to Sansa, a Lannister of Castery Rock and the Mother of Dragons would've been the ultimate arranged marriage-power couple of Westeros!

Same with me. I'll read the books when the show is over.

I interpret this as a sign that Tyrion will be swallowed by a dragon, like that Australian baby being eaten by a dingo. So exited for the upcoming season!

I just took it as a sign Tyrion is heading to met Daenerys this season, same as he was heading yo met Jon on season 1.

Worst: they killed all the good Lords, they ones left aren't going to stop The White Walkers.

Ah, but Azor Ahai Reborn is still there ( for now anyway ), isn't he ? So there's still hope.
And I'd like to see how the White Walkers fare against dragonfire ... ( I suspect that's why Martin delays Dany's return to Westeros so much. Once she's there, it's pretty much game over, I guess. )

By the time The White Walkers get to where the dragons are, they will have so many soldiers on the army of that it won't matter.

Every single person they've lost in this war is one potential soldier for the White Walker: aside the Night's Watch and Melisandre, no one else is burning the bodies.

Scary to think you're right, since "The Children" proved even people long time dead can be turned into wights. Well, at least, IIRC, poor Ned got turned to ash. I'm glad the noblest of them all can't be tainted.

Anyone else think the poster looks similar to what happened in the second Hobbit movie The Desolation of Smaug, in which the dwarves were battling the evil dragon? But this one shows Tyrion all by his lonesome. He'll definitely need some help from Jon Snow and the Watchers of the Wall.

First of all, AARGH! These little teasers are either making me more excited for the new season or making me more crazy with having to wait for 1 more month.
Second, the poster looks badass, the dragon looks more menacing than Season 3's poster which was kinda lame.

This whole "the Sight" thing has me thinking: We've been told Bran isn't appearing this season, and we've assumed this means his storyline is on hold. But what if that's not true at all?

What if all of these references to "the Sight" are, in fact, references to Bran actually watching certain events unfold as his supernatural training/transformation/whatever in the north progresses? The effect they use to start each clip---a closed eye, possibly Bran's, and the squawk of a crow---is clearly reminiscent of Bran's visions, and Bran is the character most connected to the concept of "the Sight".

It would be very interesting if, throughout Season 5, the odd scene began and ended with similar imagery---unexplained, seemingly out-of-place at the time---only to be revealed in Season 6 (or even later) as Bran having been watching via "the Sight".

Great theory. I feel like the visual effects used during the clip, a sort of warping around the edges etc. make it feel like a dream sequence of sorts. Which would also support this.
