Game of Thrones: Watch the Official Season 3 Trailer Finally! (VIDEO)

The lack of a new trailer for Game of Thrones Season 3 had me thinking that HBO might've been lying about Season 3 altogether. But then tonight came around and I was all like PHEW! Game of Thrones Season 3 is happening, and now we have proof!

HBO has finally released the first official trailer (read: not one of those silly tease things) tonight during Jimmy Kimmel Live in one of the weirdest cross-promotions I've seen, and now it has been unleashed on the internet. Behold!

Wow, that was really something! And I say "something" because I'm pre-writing this article and I haven't actually seen it yet! But I'm guessing there are some guys in armor, possibly fighting, maybe some familiar faces looking longingly out at the fields of Ireland, and the giant half-pig-half-giraffe creature that eats Tyrion halfway through the book.

Game of Thrones returns March 31 on HBO.

Danny looks good in Tokar. Her story is possibly the most excitng in first half of third book. I love Emilia Clarke. She just isn't perfect Danny, but also great actress and person. I am kind tormentet about that they splited third book in two seasons, because it isn't possible to get everything in one season, but also second part is better than first.

P.S. To all people who spoils series. There is another way to show that you can read, and not by spoiling game of thrones expirience to those who are watching TV or just starting to read books. Bassicly, Shut Up!

Just watched it, and just realised the oh so subtle but perfect blend of Jorah's words and the action depicted on screen with Jaime Lannister. I think I can hazard a guess who is strapped up and under the hood too---kind of glad they are actually going to depict it (at least a little) rather than return to that plot thread down the line and need to resort to tonnes of retrospective exposition. That may have been okay for the books but wouldn't have been very well translated to the screen.

Thank you for being able to articulate your thoughts without spoiling anything for those who haven't read the books. I wish more people were this considerate.

Also, I agree that that method would not translate to TV as well as it did in the books.

You're welcome. It took a little bit of fiddling with the wording, but I'm glad I was able to avoid spoilers. As a huge fan of the books and the surprises to come, I would have hated if I had known about them ahead of time, so merely trying to extend that courtesy.

I am assuming you know which plot I was referring to in the last part of my post then. It would have been so boring to just hear about it in dialogue and have to have resorted to numerous flashbacks when they can just pad out the series and add more drama by showing at least a hint of it now..:-)

The casting of that dude as Mance Rayder is offensive. That dude in no way reminds me of the free spirited Mance Rayder (who is not a fat old man).

You might want to reread the books. Your perception of Mance Rayder appears to be somewhat skewed.

Offensive to who. You can judge him from 3 secs of footage. Furthermore, GRRM picked him. And Ciaran Hinds is not fat.

Are you sure? I don't think we saw The Brave Companions. The ones in the huts grabbing swords and stuff were members of the Night's Watch, I think, at the main-camp Jon Snow left behind.

Are you guys mad?
I think the song fits very well. The lyrics feel like they are basically written for the book. As for the music itself.. opinions I guess, but imo it makes quite the impact.

On another note, I really hope they put some juice into Danaerys Storyline. If it keeps to the books, it will be forever until we see some meaningful action.

Wow, what a terrible song choice. I thought trailers were supposed to make things look exciting and make me anticipate them more avidly. But if season 2 was any indication, I'm sure season 3 will be as boring as the trailer made it out to seem.

Can you please tell me what happened in season 2, because as far as I can tell nothing has really changed since this end of season 1. There are a bunch of people in the north, Rob Stark is still waging war against the South, Arya IS STILL RUNNING AWAY! All season 2 did was waste time, and spent 10 episodes NOT doing what they could have done in 4. And I know a bunch of people are expecting what happened in the books to happen in the show but that doesn't matter. The anticipation of awesome stuff happening doesn't make a good show. I don't plan on ever reading the books (that's why I watch the television show) so they need to start actually delivering rather than just having fans who think it's going to be awesome some indeterminate time in the future.

Dude, you're crazy. S3 will blow you away. They're trying to put together a trailer without spoiling people(somewthing which is very hard given how SoS is overflowing with plot). And besides, it's only the first trailer. What did the s1/s2 trailers have that this doesn't?

I wasn't necessarily commenting on how good the trailer looked, but just saying that my anticipation this time around will not be nearly as high as for last season.

Well, that didn't really give us anything. This is why I'm not much for new trailers, teasers, cast & crew interviews, or anything else that pretends to dish and never does. I guess we see that Danny possibly fares a little better luck-wise at some point in this season than she has in the past, what with her nice outfit and what appears to be an army, but that's about it.

Sidenote: Can her and Jorah finally get together please? And without the soapy revelation of "You lied to me! I can NEVER trust you!" that I fear is coming? Dany is too often characterized by righteous indignation.

Book Dany is (most of the time) rather stupid and boring. If she behaves normally it would be a big change from the book. Dany in the book starts out at 13, 15 in the series. Jorah has 2-3 times her age. Super creepy!
I'm looking forward to the scene where she acquires her army, though (hope that that was not too spoiler-y).

You got plenty. Wildlings south of the wall. Dany gets an army and goes to war. Jon and Ygritte get it on.

Were you expecting them to spoil what happens or something?

Ahhhhhh yes!!! So excited! Time to re-watch season 2, drag out those books and reread book 3, look into an HBO subscription, decide against an HBO subscription, call up my friend with HBO to make plans to go over every Sunday, gossip furiously about Jaime with whoever will listen, and rinse out my giant golden wine goblet for viewing time. I hope I have enough time before March 31st.

To all of you "non-bookies" out there: don't worry, Tyrion is not going to get eaten by a giant giraffe/pig beast halfway through the book.

He will be eaten right at the beginning of the book however.

So. Excited. I can't wait to see Jaime! And Jorah. And...oh goodness, everyone. But I think I'm most excited for season 4 because almost everything I love about book 3 happens in the second half. Still: WOO!

Also, anyone know this song? I need to buy it now, because of reasons.

Wasn't Tyrion HORRIBLY DISFIGURED OH MY GOD EEEEWWW UGLY last year?
Now he has a small fashionable scar... I knew it wasn't as bad as in the books, but this barely qualifies as a scar...

You do realize it would have cost an arm and a leg to CGI out Peter Dinklage's nose in every scene he's in. I'd much rather they spend their budget on getting the important parts of the books just right
1
Reply
Flag
Did I say they should have done that? Considering the awesome makeup they did for The Hound, I just expected something more impressive for one of the most important characters on the show...
1
Reply
Flag
Yes but Tyrion is in way more scenes than the Hound. Rory McCann only needs to have that make-up done for a week or 2 and then all his scenes are filmed. They would need to do extensive make-up every day for 2-3 months with Peter Dinklage. It would cost extravagently more.
1

Flag
You're both right, but the integrity of the source material and the cost of the extensive make-up/CGI had nothing to do with the showrunners decision to reduce Tyrion's disfigurement. Gold_Ruby is essentially correct. There was never any chance they would horribly disfigure THE fan favorite of a very popular television show. A scar or gash is one thing, but losing half a nose is something else entirely. Scars are glorified and apparently digged by chicks. Half-noses aren't. Peter Dinklage is far too handsome to be playing Tyrion anyway. Don't get me wrong, he is perfect for the part, and I couldn't imagine a better Tyrion. But the character in the books is much uglier, much lonelier, a half-man with a half-nose, yet the shadow he casts is as tall as any king. That's why he's the best character.
2

How could they remove half of Peter's nose?

Juvinile Dragons. If you haven't read the books then I don't know why you are getting excited about the Dragons. You don't understand the role they play in the History of the World or what their function will be at the end of the story.
Reply
Flag
Hold on a second, please don't give us book readers such a bad reputation.
Firstly the TV show does a good job of explaining the significance of the dragons, their rarity, the fact that no one believes they could be back and even their place in history as it does (albeit not in huge detail) explain how Aegon conquered Westeros.
Secondly if someone wants to be excited by dragons why would that warrant your scorn? Just let them enjoy what they want without claiming they have no right to, you come across as extremely petty and pretentious.
Thirdly as someone who has read the books I can say that I (and by the same rational you) do no know "what their function will be at the end of the story" so please get down off your high horse and learn some civility.

I always thought it was fascinating how GRRM alluded to the resurgence of dragons being directly responsible for the heightened potency of magic and sorcery in Westeros.

Just goes to show even baby dragons can change the world.

That whole scene with Hallyne was a major disappointment. Purely on a visually descriptive standpoint, it was one of my favorite moments in ACoK. And you're absolutely correct. There was no mention of The Mad King and his frequently used method of execution.

That's an interesting take on why magic is creeping back into the world. It *IS* called A Song of Ice and Fire, not A Song of Fire and Ice. Obviously the dragons represent the fire and the White Walkers the ice, but which ephemeral element takes precedence? I think Robert Frost favors the dragons, if you follow my somewhat elusive writing.
Flag
Yea I do love how it starts as a world that has forgotten magic just as its starting to make a resurgence, it makes Renly's death shocking as whilst the dragons are known about that's the first serious piece of magic you read about if I can remember correctly. However who knows maybe its the return of the White Walkers that are brining the magic back, and they are responsible for the dragons being born.

One thing that slightly disappointed me in the TV show is when Tyrion visits the pyromancer and he acts like they have been making the Wildfire without any problem. In the books they haven't been able to make any as efficiently for a long time. Also he claims to have made loads since Cersei directed him to, but us book readers know there is an entirely different reason that they have so much stocked up, however maybe they will get to that reveal in time. The hidden backstory of that particular character (not Cersei or the pyromancer) is brilliant if you follow my somewhat elusive writing.
