In the past year, Aaron (played by Danny Miller) has come out as gay, prompting a mixed response from his friends and family.
The moment he came out has won the ITV soap a nomination for Best Single Episode, Aaron's Gay Self-Loathing has been nominated for Best Storyline, while Danny himself has been nominated for Best Dramatic Performance in the awards, which take place this Saturday.
Emmerdale has been nominated in each of the panel's nine categories, while rivals Coronation Street and EastEnders each have eight, Doctors has six nods and Hollyoaks five.
Another storyline which appears to have impressed the panel is EastEnders' Who Killed Archie?, which is nominated for best storyline. Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey in the BBC One show, has been nominated for Best Dramatic Performance, and the soap's live episode, in which she was named as Archie's killer, has been put forward as Best Single Episode.
EastEnders missed out on a nomination for Spectacular Scene Of The Year, while none of the Corrie cast has been included in the Best Newcomer category.
The ceremony will also see which soaps come out on top of the categories voted for by the public.
