Gilmore is no more

Network television will lose a fair amount of rapid-fire pop-culture references this month, as CW and Warner Bros. TV have decided to end the run of Gilmore Girls after seven seasons. The two companies announced the news on the Gilmore Girls Web site, saying the final episode of the show will air in less than two weeks on May 15.

"Announcing the final season of Gilmore Girls is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Bros. Television," reads the statement. "This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television's most memorable, lovable characters."

The statement continues, "We would also like to thank the critics and Gilmore fans for their passionate support and promise to give this series the send off it deserves."

The show's future has been in question for some time now, with the two leading actresses, Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) and Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore), unsure they would return for an eighth season. The Los Angeles Times cites sources saying the studios were unable to cement a new deal with the pair.

The latest season has undergone a few behind-the-scenes changes as well. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and husband/collaborator Daniel Palladino left after the sixth season when a contract could not be reached with Warner Bros. David Rosenthal took over producing duties for the current season.

The CW will miss the show, as it was one of its more successful programs, both in terms of ratings and viewer fanaticism.

Gilmore girls need to come back i have to know if Logan will chase after her... he really needs 2

  • Britt112206

I will miss "Gilmore Girls". I remember when the first episode came on I was little, The connection between them was amazing, thats what got my attention!!! I would watch Gilmore Girls and be sad, because that was the kind of relationship I wanted with my mother. My mother and I never had a relationship. She never wanted me and she had me when she was 17yrs old. I thought it could have ended a little better. It left you hanging,I was like what the crap. I wanted to know what was gonna happen with Luke and Lorelai. Lauren and Alexis are amazing actresses, there is no one better for those two roles. I still watch "Gilmore Girls" on the family channel, even though I have already seen every episode!!! They Will be missed!!!!!moreless

Oh yea! This is great! Now I have to tell my wife. This is going to go over like a lead balloon.

  • caligurl1ggfan

no i hate that there ending it i really really really want another seaason or two and we need all of the cast

  • cyberkan

i love gilmore girls and i hate that it ends :(

  • crystalboylen06

i am so sad that this show has ending. i have seen every season at least four times and i dont agree with the fact they ended it.

  • LOGAN4ever

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! Cancelling it is the worst thing anyone couls ever do. I mean there is alot about gilmore girls that help girls like their relationships with their moms are how to handle their moms like Lorelai and just how to even handle a regular relationship with a guy. Besides being an inspiration it teaches you soo many good old movies and actors/actresses so you can relate to older people. Lorelai and Rory are so witty and funny. Besides all that! IT'S JUST FUN TO WATCH!!!!

  • cindylloyd

Aren't CW and the like all about ratings, isn't advertising revenue what thier lives focus around? Then why, please tell me why, do these guys not want to pay for the "show to go on", its not like they are going to make the stars rich, hey they already are. I know I am pretty much just getting a rant out of my system, but must say it feels good. I will sadly miss Gilmore Girls, much as I have said goodbye to other favourites, 90210, Buffy, Angel, Alias, oh it leaves me very sad indeed, 2 losses in a season (Veronica Mars too), why do they take the good and replace with more rubbish like fools singing, anorexics walking, fools living in "tribes", please if I wanted a non scripted, boring converation I could talk to my maid and have a better laugh. Well enough from me, not that you would read this anyway. Please stop cancelling my show!!!!moreless

  • Alettajansen

Unfortunately, it was about time that they finished the series, but I think unfortunate it was So quick! It deserved a bigger ending! :)

  • tviq

This show should have been a Lifetime Original Series. Its that bad.

  • pina_colada

the funny thing about GG was how so many guys watched it too. my ex bf loved watching the show because of all the nerdy pop-culture references. and my current bf enjoyed watching the show with me because of its quirky-ness. it really made you laugh out loud sometimes. entertaining! =) anyways on top of all that, i knew tons of guys who watched it as well for various reasons. it had a good storyline, the girls were attractive and it was really funny...plus many many other reasons. too bad they had to cancel it...this show must have had one of the biggest audiences ever. males, females, the old, the young and everyone else in between. i dont know what to do next tuesday night. i think i need to buy the GG DVDs now...moreless

  • caslizscott

well i already miss gg. The way the show ended was crazy. What sane person dumps the love of their life, graduates school and skipp's town in a matter of days come on do the producers think we are all idiots. I mean I've watched the show for seven years and love all the cast but show the fans some love here and tie up the show with a bang not a dud pleasssssssssse. I realy didn't think that it would end the way the last two episodes went down so fix it.

  • deadzonefan

This was my 2. favourite show. As my Nr.1 show-The Dead Zone- only airs new episodes in summer my question is now: "What the h*** am I supposed to watch between DZ-Seasons now.The rest of the year will take forever!!!

  • llzh

I have been watching Gilmore Girls Since the beginning. I have loved the show and I hate to see it end , especially the way it did end, I feel that the story was left unfinished and was more of a cliff hanger than an ending of the series.I want to see the show come back and at least tie up the loose ends. i cried threw the whole last episode not only because Rory was leaving but because it all felt so unfinished. i have a 10 year old daughter that I have watched the show with for seven years and i can only hope that we will have that kind of relationship as she grows older. we love the show and we hope that some how some way that the CW finds a way to finish their story and give the fans the closure that we feel we were cheated out of. I don't expect the show to run forever but let it end with the same power that it began with.It is a wonderful story about how parents should communicate with their kids, why can't we have a joyfully ending? Watching my own daughter grow up so fast makes me realize that in 8 short years she too will leave and put her mark on the world, I hope that it wont be a sad experience but a joyfully one. I wish the show would help show how to let go and rejoice in the job well done not dwell on the pure sadness of their leaving.thanks Linda Houston Txmoreless

  • Yade

OMFG how can they stop the show???? How can they do that too us??

Well I guess all good things have too end sometime :'(

    Not happy about it. >:

  • I_luvTV92

Cant....Stop....Crying. How dare they let the pallidino's leave? They let go of 2 awesome seasons and replaces it with one cruddy one? These crazt jerk offs.

  • harleysims

When I began watching the Gilmore Girls seven seasons ago I thought it was an alright show that was something to watch on a tuesday evening, but as the show continued and the storyline grew I found myself waiting for tuesday night with a great deal of anticipation. When i was watching the last episode i couldn't believe that this was the last gilmore girl episode i would ever see, while i was watching it i kept thinking to myself I can't believe this is the last episode ever and all i wanted to do was pay attention and not miss a thing but that is exactly the opposite of what happened and it was over before i knew it. It was such a shock that that was the last episode and i wish that lauren and alexis would reconsider and come back for another season. Now i know that they probably don't read these but if for some chance in hell that they ever do, Please come back we all miss you very much and need you on our tuesday nights, you have alot of fans who love you very much, simmsmoreless

  • DippyAngel

I'm still crying!I hope they change their minds. I miss the show already.

  • bab381

I can't believe it's finish!I was crying so much that i can't see the kiss.

  • dwolder

I feel the enormous emptiness that you feel in your gut when that best friend suddenly leaves and you are all alone again. My wife and I looked forward to seeing Gilmore Girls every week. It was a feel good show, one that would make you chuckle later thinking about some of the conversation. We were both saddened to discover that this was the last episode, as we didn't realize this when we sat down to watch.

We'll Miss you. We would welcome you back for an 8th season, so you could tie up some loose ends.

  • megank99

I can't believe that the show is over either. The gilmore girls is the best and why can't they try to bring it back for at least a little while longer. I'm glad that I have seasons 1-6 on dvd because the show is so awesome, and I hope they decide to put season 7 on dvd also. It's been a fun 7 seasons lets try for 8 thanks megank99

  • beshowjim

I MISS THE SHOW ALREADY! Sad.......

  • pezzie1977

It is truly heart breaking to see a great show like this go. I understand that the cast had their reasons for not returning, and it sucks for all of us who truly love that Lorelai/Rory bond. But I wish them all the best in whatever they choose to do in the future and I'll watch them over and over again through the power of my DVD player. Good bye and good luck ladies!

  • Kryzt

I had no idea that it was OVER!!!!!!!!!!! I thought that there was at least one more season!!!! What is going on here, I am so sad and don't even know what to say. Please don't let it end yet!!!!!

  • jennifershetler

    Regarding Gilmore Girls:

It has been a delilght to watch the interaction between mothers and daughters for 7 years. having raised two sons..this was a treat. Of Course Luke and his flannel shirts kept my heart pounding each week. Hope the fianl episode bring those two independent spirits together... atleast in our imaginations. Wish all the cast the best for their super work. New Horizons are inevitable for such a talented group of character actors and actresses. BRAVO and Thanks for the fun times. Jennifer from POrtland Oregon

  • PaulAnka123

noooooooooooooo! gilmore girls is the best show EVER! my sister and my mum both love gilmore girls as well. I'm so watching that movie, "because i said so" with lauren graham in it. it may be the last time i see her act, cos i live in aus. did u know that they didn't show gg over here for like 3 years! they've just started showing the 4th season, but its too late cos i rented them all and watched up to 6th season ages ago.

  • seekingHISface

I was so upset when I heard that this show was coming to an end. It has been a great 7 years! It was a show that three generations of women in my family enjoyed together!

  • niff08

this is the worst news ever!!gilmore girls is my fav show! ive got them all on dvd and watch them over and over. im so shocked and sad

  • SebastianP

This is absolutely sad. I discovered the series some time ago, watching it on DVD. And now that I'm absolutely addicted to it, they don't continue. I live in Germany so I have some more time left until the seventh season will be available on DVD, but no eighth season? Alexis and Lauren - you broke my heart...

  • mommy_in_love

I cried. I have watched it from the beginning. My husband had to hold me. I cant believe it.

  • Lullani

It is extremely sad that this show has been cancelled as it was one of only a few shows worth watching. I don't understand why shows of violence fill the airwaves and good shows like this are cancelled. It just means I will spend one less night a week watching television now as there is hardly anything to watch any more on television with Charmed being cancelled last year. Now I will only be watching television two times a week at nights instead of 3. I refuse to watch terrible shows filled with hate and violence and the dumb and stupid shows the networks have.
Good luck to the cast and crew. You were all great and will be missed. I feel cheated now since Gilmore Girls won't be there to watch any more and there isn't going to be a decent ending like they had on Charmed that tied up all the loose ends. I will just watch my dvd's over I guess of Gilmore Girls on Tuesday night since there won't be anything good to watch any more that night.moreless

  • aihyah

good, the show jumped the shark long ago when rory left for college. if it had been short and sweet and just got canceled then it would have been a great show. instead it dragged on and got increasingly annoying with more and more of the rich grand parents and the snobby bunch. the cute rory stuff works in high school but isn't quite as amusing in college. the mother goes from quirky hard to please woman who goes from relationship to relationship to an insane indecisive psycho who just messes with mens minds. theres just been too many relationship resets to prolong the show for it to end well now. its just tired and false now. all that made it good with the small town and life struggles is gone. the whole style of the show is out of date now. each season has gotten progressively worse after rory went to college. i kept hoping it would regain its charm but it never did. its for the best that it is canceled. somethings cannot be fixed.basically it comes down to this, no amount of clever pop culture laden dialog is going to save characters who have become unlikable.moreless

  • wentearl

now on the final episode they have to take jess back....just for a visit..

  • gonazlez10106

I don't know what to do with my Tuesday nights now! This was one thing I could count on! I mean, every time something happened in the show, everyone felt it inside them selves! I mean, when Rory told Logan that she was not going to marry them everyone started to cry, and wonder why! It's become a MUST-SEE EVENT! They made a BIG mistake! best wishes to Lauren, Alexis, & the rest of the cast!

  • DarkBride

It doesnt seem like its going to go out the way it should, the Hay Bale Maze episode wasted so much time that they could have used better, wrapping things up. This sucks

  • Superlinz21

This is really unfortunate that this show is ending. Why do the genuinely good shows have to end, and we end up being left with shows that have no meaning or depth to them? We're left with shows that are horribly violent, curse with every other word, or just revolve around sex. I'll miss the randomness and the overall hilarity that GG brought to television. It will be missed!

  • Kynthia

Earlier tonight when I was watching it, I was saying, "They won't end it now. There's no way they'd screw it up like they did Lois & Clark." But they did and now I'm very sad. I don't know how it's going to get wrapped up in one episode. That's just wrong somehow.

  • B_621

i totally agree with u degrassi148. I mean gilmore girls is such a great show!! Why do they have pussycat dolls or beauty and the geek no offense to anybody who likes them. But these shows smallville, one tree hill etc are great shows and looks like there gonna be next! Anyways Gilmore Girls ( and 7th Heaven) will be missed!!!

What am I going to do on Tuesday nights now? :(

  • cassf

i just don't understand! i thought this show had a lot of followers? i understand that the girls want to move on, but why couldnt they just make a deal?!?! maybe they'll pull a "7th heaven" and come back;) we can all just only hope! it's just a shock i didnt realize it was happening!

  • mdownting

Im sorry, but man im going to be depressed. Even though im in Australia, i think its only come into the 5th or 6th season, and thats on cable. Ive made my boyfriend download the 7th season and got him hooked on it. I love the show, why were they unable to give was the ladies wanted. The biggest mistake CW and Warner Bros are going to make. Good Luck to both Lauren and Alexis for the future, GG is going to be missed. :-(

  • pandahugs

I just heard about this tonight. I am so crushed....as for those that don't care or don't like it please stay off here and keep your comments between you and those that agree...my guess is there are more supporters than not here. I will definitely miss this show. If they can't end it nice enough maybe they can get the actors and actresses to do a mini series or something to wrap it up or maybe get a spin-off so that whoever doesn't want a contract can come back from time to time.

  • btvs899705

Love you Gilmore Girls! The CW will not be the same without you:)

  • myspace_addict

I don't care what all y'all haters think, GG is the best show on TV! It was drama, comedy, it had great characters, story lines & a great fan base! I know this is corny but I did cry. GG was my fave show EVER, I love it to death! Mostly because it reminds me so much of my home life, my mom had my brother when she was a teenager, just like Lorelai. And she dropped out of High School, just like Lorelai. Plus, my grandmother is so much like Emily, it's scary sometimes. This show will always live in my heart.
Good bye Gilmore Girls! You will be missed!

  • Xibalban

I have no idea why this show was popular - about time its gone.
