Sacha Baron Cohen Wants Sarah Palin to Be his Golden Globes Date

After being nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on Thursday, Sacha Baron Cohen took a second to thank the people who truly elevated Who Is America? to an award-worthy level: the poor rubes he punked, including Sarah Palin.

"This show was a labour of love for over two years," Cohen said of his series which is a frankenbaby of reality, mockumentary and political satire. "It is a shame they overlooked the amazing performances by the rest of the cast, particularly Dick Cheney and Roy Moore," Cohen joked, as many of the interviewees did not know who was really interviewing them or the true purpose of the conversation.

Cohen added in a statement to Deadline, "Meanwhile Ms. Palin, despite being cut from the show, I hope you will accept my invitation to be my date for the ceremony." While Cohen and the Who Is America? team filmed an interview with former Alaska governor turned vice presidential nominee turned conservative pundit, it never aired. The show did credit her as "Special Publicity Consultant (Inadvertent)" for all the attention they received after Palin's Facebook post, in which she wrote about getting duped by Cohen's team, went viral.

According to the post, when Palin met Cohen, she mistook his character for a disabled U.S. veteran and eventually walked out of the interview because she was so uncomfortable. But attempting to drag him on social media only backfired as Showtime revealed a clip in which the same Cohen character interviewed Bernie Sanders and is clearly not representing himself as a disabled vet.

Though it'll be a few weeks until we find out for sure, something tells us Palin is going to decline his invitation.

The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards airs Sunday, Jan. 6, at 8/7c on NBC.
