Grease Is the Live Musical Event That Fox Wants: Grease Live Is Set for 2015

Grease is the word for Fox!

Following NBC's success with The Sound of Music Live! last winter (and its subsequent plans to stage a live production of Peter Pan this December), Fox has announced Grease Live, a three-hour live TV version of the classic 1971 musical about summer lovin', as told through the eyes of Pink Ladies, T-Birds, and a goodie-goodie new kid named Sandy Olsen. The musical was most famously adapted in the 1978 movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

"From Broadway to film, and across generations, Grease is one of the most beloved musical stories ever told—and we can't wait to bring it to our air in a spectacular live event," Shana C. Waterman, senior vice president of event series for Fox, said in a statement. "Its iconic characters and addictive songs make it the perfect fit for Fox, and we're going to give it the kind of star power and production quality to make every Sandy, Danny, Rizzo, and Kenickie out there want to get up and sing along."

Added Paramount TV President Amy Powell: "It's incredibly exciting to have one of our first major network productions be based on this universally celebrated Paramount title, and we're thrilled to be partnering with Kevin, Joe and Shana on this epic television event. FOX's passion for engaging audiences with bold storytelling and live musical formats make it a perfect home for this special broadcast."

Grease Live will air sometime in 2015? Will you watch?

Ah why not (as long as the cast is good and/or it doesnt wind up like Grease 2). Seeing that this is a live production and not a remake of the Grease movie I don't mind. I never watched the Sound of Music when it aired so idk how well these live productions are, but I might check it out.

Also wasn't it Fox that had that horrible Grease related reality talent contest thing?

The Sound of Music was horrible.. I most likely won't watch Peter Pan. I always liked Grease (the movie), so if I watch this it will greatly depend on who is cast.. but I'm still expecting it to be crap.

I try not to be "that guy" (so to speak, I'm a girl lol), BUT Olivia Newton John's character was named Sandy Olsen.... not Sandra Dee... Sandra Dee was a well-known actress of the time who was blonde haired and squeaky clean (she played Gidget in the 1959 movie) that Rizzo jokingly refereed to Sandy as to be mean......

It might not be a big deal to most, but as a one time humongous fan of the musical (before lessons on sexism and misogyny tainted the overall theme for me) I felt the urge to say something...
