For some time now, rumors have been all over the place saying that Katherine Heigl is through being a television star and is ready to pursue a film career. She's also been a major part of the off-screen drama on Grey's Anatomy and may be asking to get out of her contract.
And with that preface, we bring you news that Heigl has landed a leading role in the upcoming motion picture Five Killers. The thriller, co-starring Ashton Kutcher and produced by Lionsgate, focuses on a vacationing couple that believes their neighbors may be assassins that have been hired to kill them.
Heigl's biggest film role to date was as the female lead in Judd Apatow's Knocked Up, and her profile jumped up shortly after the film's box office release when she won an Emmy for her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens in Grey's Anatomy. The following year, Heigl pulled her name out of the Emmy running, insinuating that she wasn't given the proper material to deserve nomination.
The most recent rumors of Heigl wanting to get out of her contract came about earlier this month, but Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes said they weren't true. Still, most believe that Heigl's days are numbered at Grey's, and the is she/isn't she dying character arc she's currently in isn't helping matters.

Okay, I have really great news!! I no for a fact Katherine is not leaving greys because I saw a patrick dempsey interview and he said they already shot the propsal and Katherine and T.R were both i quote "very there". Please no nasty comments because Patrick Dempesy was on THE VIEW and he said this for fact. Making her character sick on the show was probably just a plot to get Derek to come back to work.If she wasnt sick and didnt need brain surgery then his character would be still sitting there drunk in the trailer park and Meredith and Derek would never have a chance of any future together! Hopefully she will leave just for a couple episodes so she could do her movie or wait until summer or whenever they are done shooting the current season 5 , so she could hopefully be done by the time they start shooting season 6.moreless
Izzie can have a film career and still be on the show. She cannot leave Grey's because her Mer, Alex, Christina and George are the essence of Grey's anatomy... The show will suck if she or any of the characters on the show leave, two amazin characters already left Addison and Burke, if Izzie goes the show is killed! Every character plays an important role and we need the happy one in Grey's Anatomy or it will be too depressing to watch!
But like I said I do also love her in movie roles too! I am obsessed with 27 dresses and Knocked Up they are so funny!
I cant agree more chicksterrr! I wish her luck in whatever she decides to go, but I do love her to death on Greys. A part of me really would love for her to stay on Greys because her role makes the rest of the characters role seem darker. Which is what Greys is all about the last 4 seasons.
Peon4570, you hit it right on the nail. The show will have problems whether Izzie and George stay or go. They used up all the amazing storylines and exhausted all the best ideas in the first two seasons, and now it's like they can't get back to that. Most long-running shows peak in their 5th season or so, but Grey's was at its best in Seasons 1 and 2. I'm just tired of all the rumors with Izzie. Now they're saying that she's going to live while George gets killed off, kind of like a "bait-and-switch" thing with Shonda Rhimes. It's just annoying that they aren't letting the current plot go anywhere. Sure, the last string of 3 or 4 episodes from the season will probably be incredible, just like they did with Season 4. Then everyone will feel guilty for thinking that the season was so bad, because it will end with such a bang. But in the meantime, all we have are filler episodes while we wait to get there. I just think that having Izzie die would be so anti-climactic at this point. Practically everybody expects it now, and I'm sure Rhimes will be eager to throw as many surprises into the finale as possible. Maybe Derek's storyline for the March 12 episode will soak up some of the Heigl/Knight departure drama. That would be a good thing.moreless
Good for her, she's a wonderful tv and movie star. There's lots of people who do television as well as movies...why does it seem impossible for Heigl to do the same?
Enough about her already, For every TV Star that leaves to become a Movie Star ie; Will Smith, Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, etc, there are a lot more David Caruso's, Topher Grace's, Shelly Long's etc, So I do not want to hear her complaning in a few years that she is not getting enough good scripts written for her, Just go away.
Heigl's character Izzie is my fav character on teh show, but since S4, she has been given terrible storylines - I think the worst was the return of dead Denny. I liked her in both Knocked Up and 27 Dresses and if she wants to pursue a film career, than good luck to her. I will miss her on Grey's if she leaves.

well shes good at both remember clonney left er to become a movie star
Not really a fan of Katherine Heigl.
She is a grat actress and she should be given the chance to prove it. We will miss her for sure.
She is going to leave the show... i know she is...
She is talented and I think will shine wherever she goes.
i dont want her to leave the show
boo, dont let that no talent itch do anything boo
Izzie don't leave us
Is great that she has other projects, I love her role as Izzie, but she has the right to do what she wants. Plus those rummores are getting kinda old.
Film career is better than tv shows like Grey's anatomy
YAAAAWN! OMG rumors of Heigl wanting to leave Grey's Anatomy?!? How rare is that!
I'd like her to do both. I would like her to have some better storylines in Grey's and still be able to do films.
It's just a movie, this isn't the first time she'll be working two jobs.
Knocked up was a very funny film. Her other films were very good too and I believe she has had enough time in shows. First Roswell and now Grey's anatomy. She's the one with the most potential on the show, to have a film career so I think she should just leave Grey's anatomy.
I hope she follows through with a film career and gets off Grey's.
Knocked up was a terrible film.
Who cares? She peaked in Roswell!
I hope she doesn't leave Greys Anatomy as well as I hope that they give her a better script. But it's great she is making movies. Good for her!
Knowing the projected filming schedule would help answer the main question.
Ashton and Katherine? I'll check this out for sure, but this sounds like it would be better as a comedy.
Don't care go stay the show will still have problems....I wish we could go back to season 2 form.
