Hannah Montana flick tops, Dragonball flops

Miley Cyrus continues to hint that she's done with playing Hannah Montana, but as long as she continues to rake in the dough as the moonlighting rock star, Disney will do all it can to keep her playing the tween sensation.

Disney's Hannah Montana: The Movie opened this holiday weekend and teen girls flocked to the theaters, as the film pulled in a rock solid $34 million. That was good enough to top the weekend's box-office and hold off the surprising Fast & Furious, which finished second.

Despite the big-brand, Disney had moderate expectations for the Hannah Montana film, but it outperformed expectations and went in the record books as Easter's second best opening (Scary Movie 4 opened to $40.2 million in 2006).

On the flipside of things, the new Dragonball movie did not do so well. Dragonball Evolution, a live-action version of the mega-popular anime series, managed only $4.6 million over the weekend.

(My own opinions)Surprised she can even talk with such a mouth full of teeth and gums like that, guess it's very v e r y easy to please the good old common folk.
Success does not equate to quality. Praise God, NOT!

Let’s talk about a REAL movie that is in danger of flopping; Wolverine. I think we've all seen the workprint and, even in its unfinished state, agree that its a good movie. But how many people will pay to see it now that they have essentially seen it?

Didn't Dragonball Z reach it's peak in the 90/early 2000s along with Pokemon? I'm not surprised here. But still, it didn't seem like they promoted it at all.

Glad for Miley. She's been under a not so kind microscope by paparazzi, fickle media, and detractors for the wrongs and rights in her life. Hopefully, we can all just progress versus regress with this little bit of success, . . especially since no one's forced to go or follow this person or the next.

I take offense that this writer said teen girls. I'm a 23 year old guy and went with a bunch of my Fraternity Brothers (no, it's not a gay frat)and we enjoyed it. Hannah Montana has a bit of that old fashioned comedic value that's funny because it's funny, not because it's gross.

It's our moral obligation as super educated and smart adults, I guess, to say negative things about Hannah Montana. But one keeps wondering, there's gotta be something right in the storytelling. Something really well written. Not in the literary sense, but plainly narrative. Something that compels young girls and pre-teens to stay put 2 hours in front of this "bittersweet bs". Time and again.

So, when do some good movies come out?

I hate Hannah Montana and everything it brings, but even her bittersweet bs must be better than an actual live action movie of the rockin' animated DBZ!

Wow.... I find it pretty sad that you would say something like that. Dragonball Z is a legend, how dare you disgrace it! You've probably never even watched it! Hannah Montana needs to go back to rehab, she's off Disney Channel for a reason. She's just another washed-out Lindsay Lohan.

For any of you who say Dragonball sucks, please, go watch a f*cking episode instead of judging it like that you faggots. Hannah Montana only sold a damn lot because all the 6 year olds went to see it. Duh. That's the way things work.

No one remembers Dragonball Z. It's pretty sad. See this is why our generation is f*cked. They watch bullshit whores and Disney inspires them to party and get drunk.

You want to know why Dragonball flopped? Simple, they screwed up everything, and I do mean everything. The Characters, the moves, the costumes, they changed it all, even the dragonballs themselves were screwed up. The only thing they got right was the names. Lord knows the special effects made me cry especially what they did to the Oozaru and the kamehameha. I know a five year old with a PC that can make a better looking dragon. It seems that the writers had a passing idea as to what the show was about and went off into this other world with it.

Dragonball is only good as anime. A movie will always be a flop.

I have never liked the Dragonball anime series but I def agree that it wouldn't have been such a huge flop if it had been advertised at all. Even friends I know who at least at one point like the series didn't even know that the movie was coming out. On another note while Miley Cyrus is a completely intolerable brat I must hand it to her for smartly sticking with Hannah Montana. A 16 year old still relative newcomer has better business strategy than the Disney stars of yesteryear (Lindsay Lohan anyone?). So congrats to her and Disney. Kind of mad that Observe and Report only had a mediocre opening. Yeah it's a bit dark and gross but still a comedy gem.

I didn't even know that Dragonball had been released. It would help if they advertised it...
