Though nothing is official yet, it sounds like Misfits season three is already on the cards. While hosting a question and answer session at the season two launch in London last night, presenter Jonathan Ross knowingly asked: "There are more episodes coming next year, aren’t there?" While creator Howard Overman didn't confirm these claims, he didn't deny them either, responding: "I was told not to mention that…"
A subject Overman was more willing to talk about was the chance of the show getting a movie. "We've had some offers," he confirmed, "but we decided that we've told that story already". Standing firm to his point, the writer continued: "why charge people for a rehashed version of what they’re already seen?" We take it he won't be going to see The Inbetweeners movie then.
Unsurprisingly, there's also been interest in giving Misfits a US remake. "Again, I’m not sure I’m supposed to talk about that," Overman said: "there's been a lot of interest in it and talk about maybe doing an American version, but you just have to make sure it's done in the right way." There's an emerging trend in the States at the moment for hit British dramas--particularly those on E4--to be given US remakes. American versions of Shameless, Skins and Being Human have all been created this year, while a US Inbetweeners is in the process of being produced.
As a Misfits fan, Jonathan Ross also showed interest in being involved with the show. When asking Howard Overman if he'd like to get other writers on board (previously he's written both seasons alone), the creator positively answered: "well, you've just pitched me a good idea." Ross seemed reluctant to press this in front of an audience, instead ribbing: "you're just using me to get to my wife." (He's married to Kick-Ass scriptwriter Jane Goldman, who was also in attendance at the event). Watch this space.
In the meantime, Misfits' second season starts on E4 at 10pm on Thursday, November 11. There'll also be a Christmas special aired this winter--and yes, it'll have a festive theme.
Keep your eyes out for loads more Misfits content in the coming weeks.
