Sam--not a happy camper.
It isn't a good sign for a show when the two people who created it and executive produce it decide to sign a deal with a rival studio. That's pretty much what happened to Reaper today, as Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have signed a deal to develop television shows for 20th Century Fox TV, says The Hollywood Reporter.
With Fazekas and Butters out of the picture, it looks like Reaper is almost definitely a goner. The show's future has been in question since it returned for its second season and put up disappointing numbers, and was one of the 10 shows we figured might get canceled this year… much to our chagrin.
But don't blame Fazekas and Butters--word probably came down from The CW that their services wouldn't be needed for more Reaper.
Reaper, produced by ABC Studios for the CW, was one of 2007's most critically acclaimed new shows, but floundered in the ratings department. It just made the cut for renewal for a second season, but was pretty much crushed by the reality programs it was up against.
There's still no official announcement of the show's cancellation, but it would take a miracle to see this get another shot.

I really hope something happens to save this show. It is only one of two shows on TV that I not actually watch, but tevo if I can't be home. It's witty, offbeat, and a great change to the bs reality shows that clutter our TV screens. Maybe we need to tame down the prozack and let our creative geniuses be incredible so we can get some actual entertainment from our TV programming.
It was a good show so they had to cancel it. If they'd quite moving shows around and have them on where and when they're listed or the local channels wouldn't put sports or something else on because the have no taste the good programs might stay on.

This show is great and really starting to get very interesting with its current story. I know it will be canceled which is very unfortunate but maybe the executive producers who just signed with 20th Century Fox TV are planning to resurrect the show with the help of that studio? We can only hope.
REAPER is great. I don't know why, but if a channel wants to cancel a show, at least should make a finale to the series, and not leave it open.
Sucks. Reaper is hilarious. I guess people would rather watch nerds date grandmas or whatever the hell Ashton Kutcher is producing instead of a really funny show that has actually improved in its sophomore season. I like seeing how many people on this website understand that reality tv is destroying the reality of tv. Pretty soon nothing scripted will exist. It's time that executives and advertisers understand that the all-important ratings they desire are a completely antiquated system of judging popularity. Honestly, I'm a 25 year old male and I don't know one god damned person that watches the rating "juggernaut" American Idol. Just like magazines only survived when they changed their focus from general audiences to niche markets, so too should television execs change their focus from hitting everybody to hitting one group very well. But hey, we all know that won't happen until it's too late. These are the same people who canceled Arrested Development and replaced it with Skating with Celebrities. (TV execs, not the CW)moreless
Aaaaarrrrggggghhhh! I LOVE Reaper! (and Terminator). The networks have to figure out a different way of rating shows because what they have now doesn't work! I TiVo everything. They should only give ratings boxes to households with some kind of DVR or PVR like TiVo, then they'd get more accurate numbers. We should replace network execs with the geniuses at Wal-mart and McDonalds whose businesses continue to grow. I'm sooooo mad I could spit, but I won't because that's not sanitary. Is there some place we can contact the networks to get them to re-consider?
let me guess they're just going off the ratings from the live show, not counting DVR or anything else? This is yet another reason i'm moving off television towards hulu, i'd rather hulu get ad revenue then these dam networks pulling good shows.
Shows like this get the axe and yet reality TV shows live on and on. If I cared what everyday people are doing, I wouldn't own a TV. I'd sit in a public place each night before bed.
I am SO SICK of them taking off good programs and keeping on those that just SUCK! I only watch a few shows each season, and pretty soon I will be lucky if I even watch one. UGH..I will be knocking on someones door if they touch Supernatural. LOL
Nielsen must have installed their instruments in the wrong households - we have to suffer through abysmal shows which get renewed.And good ones like <strong>REAPER</strong> face cancelling??? This is so wrong!

There are 5 shows that i watch....Reaper, terminator, heros, smallvile, csi, life....i guess it is 6 not 5.....so...what is wrong with reaper....it is fun to watch.....and termminator too

I couldn't believe I had missed the beginning of the season. I absolutely loved this show. The first season was amazing. The second season seems a bit weak compared to last season. The humor is so my style it's scary.
Not my favorite show, but I just hope at least they give an ending to all the shows they want to cancel, that´s the least they can do for the audience and fans!
and yea cbs #1 tv network. are you kidding me? I watch seriously 15 tv shows throughout the year cause i have nothing better to do and i dont find one interesting one on cbs. Just a bunch of reality shows like many have said get all the ratings. They do not account the people who tivod downloaded the show etc into the ratings which is wrong.
I didn't even know this show was back on until the second episode. I watch smallville every new episode and they never showed one commercial about it coming back. All i see is supernatural everyone hates chris and gossip girl commericals especially.
Looking at the bloodbath of TV cancellations and the glut of awful reality shows I think it is time we revolted against the Nielsen Ratings System. Apparently they only choose the most cattle like families for their group of 5000 people that determine what stays on. Frankly I don't believe in the accuracy. They certainly do not reflect the shows that are popular on a site like this one. The networks only care about advertising revenue based on artificial demographics. The only way to effect them is to give the sponsors the idea that you are helping them. Make the corporations who advertise insist that the shows return or they will take their ad dollar elsewhere. If the Nielsen system is debunked maybe the public can be in charge of the fate of the shows we invest ourselves in. Pass it on.moreless

Lots of blaming, what about doing? What's slated for the future, remakes and remakes of oversea imports, more reality shows spawned locally and from abroad, what to do what to do besides fingerpoint? Oh well, until viewers band together and form their own networks, looks like a drought in the seasons ahead.
So many good shows get canceled too early. This like many this season seem not to have been given much of a chance - it's like a spring cleanout before the reality shows take over for the Summer. I'm from UK so really want to see the second seasons of Reaper and Chuck but because of there cancellations I don't know what the channels are going to do with them over here, as Terminator is getting shafted slightly with no repeat anymore and Pushing Daisies is getting pushed back to later times as well.
This sucks. Reaper is a fun and clever show. Great cast too. Some blame has to go to the idiot that thought it was a good idea to place it in the same time slot as American Idol. I don't watch AI, but unfortunately, it seems like every one else does.

I have watched this show from day one, so has my boyfriend and family. It is amazing, probably one of the best shows on tv to date. It is not about some rich kids with daddy's credit cards, or some stupid people trying to get their 15 minutes of fame. I wish I had the ratings box at my house here in Canada...

Damn Reaper is a good show
So, I might as well just stop watching new, creative, witty, clever, funny, and inventive shows from now on because they never get a chance. I invest my time and energy in these characters and their stroies never get to be told. The CW might as well give up trying to be a viable network. Gilmore Girls--gone. Veronica Mars--cancelled. Reaper--probably getting the boot. Supernatural--only one more season. Smallville--won't be too long now. There won't be any shows worth watching. The network is chalk-full with sterotypical melodramatic teen soap opera that have nothing new to offer viewers--same old stories, just change the names. It's pitiful.

This is typical of the networks. Always worried about ratiing. They need to support their scripted shows instead of throwing a reality show at it.

This is a very entertaining show. Reality shows bite. But they get so much ratings that it kills good shows like this. What is it with people watching these stupid reality shows. Do they find watching real people making an @## of themselves entertaining. It is all scripted anyway. but they do not believe it is. I seen many good shows leave on many networks. If this keeps up I am getting rid of my TV and getting more and more books. Probably better for me anyway. Getting old. Needing to put up the volume higher. What? I'm a liar? or was that the cats on fire. Oh well. Too bad for Reaper.
