Since last series, the British press has covered an array of high-profile stories including the Barack Obama's first 100 days in office, the global economic downturn and the Westminster email smear scandals – all of which will no doubt feature in the new season.

Frank Skinner will guest-host the opening episode, with presenters Paul Merton and Ian Hislop returning as resident team captains. MP Alan Duncan and comedian Katy Brand will also be among the panellists this Friday.

The satirical quiz, which first broadcast in 1990, is entering its 37th series and still remains a popular show on the BBC. The broadcaster currently has the show signed up for at least two more series, due to end in late 2009.

Other stars due to appear in this series include Life actor Damian Lewis, British comedian Jack Dee and Peep Show star David Mitchell.

Have I Got News for You, which currently rates an average TV.com show score of 8.6, returns this Friday, April 24, at 9pm on BBC One. Will you be watching?
