HBO launches more podcasts

It's not TV. It's the Web.

Cable giant HBO is launching podcasts for its original shows Deadwood, Entourage, Lucky Louie, and Dane Cook's Tourgasm. The podcasts will offer extra materials of interest to fans of the shows, such as behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.

Entourage, the story of a Hollywood star and his gang of pals, will have a segment called "Hollywood Minutes," with wacky true-life stories of the biz, along with video clips from the show. Also featured will be a series of interviews with series executive prodcuer Mark Wahlberg called "The Wahlberg Sessions."

Gritty Western Deadwood will feature behind-the-scenes footage and a tour of the show's detailed fake town set. Series creator David Milch will also be featured in a series of interviews.

Lucky Louie and Tourgasm will also have clips and interviews hosted on the HBO site.

The network plans on rolling out new clips and supplemental materials until the show's season ends in August. Previously, HBO series Real Time with Bill Maher podcast a show immediately after the TV show aired, titled "Oh, and One MoreThing."

Many people have commented on the slight dip in rating for the Season 3 premiere of Deadwood last Sunday. However, it had many things working against it:

a) The show was abruptly postponed to June rather than its usual March allotment
b) It wasn’t given any publicity (HBO seemed to give over its last dime, billboard and magazine fold-out to Entourage in anticipation of Deadwood’s Season 4 cancellation.)
c) The show was facing mid-stream cancellation.

Despite all of these things working against it, the Season 3 premiere posted 2.4 million viewers, which tied with the average number of viewers it posted over the course of Season 2. This is a miracle, but attests to the passionate loyalty of the Deadwood’s fan base.
HBO is making a huge mistake by cancelling this show. It's new tag line should read:
