HBO Toots Treme's Horn, Renews It for Season 3

... Hey, the broadcast networks aren't the only ones who need to make news today. HBO has renewed David Simon's Treme for a third season even though its ratings are down. You wanna know another David Simon show that got poor ratings? Only the best show ever made, The Wire. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Sarah Michelle Gellar was all set to break out as a major TV star when she signed on to the CBS pilot Ringer. Unfortunately, CBS passed on it. But the CBS family didn't. The CW has scooped up the drama about a woman who takes over her twin sister's life while on the run from the mob. From CBS to the CW? I wonder what changes will be made, besides making every character 20 years younger. [Deadline Hollywood]

... CBS has picked up the J.J. Abrams series Person of Interest, which was co-created by Christopher Nolan's brother Jonathan Nolan, who helped write The Dark Knight and Memento. The drama follows a presumed-dead CIA agent who is financed by a billionaire (Lost's Michael Emerson) to fight crime. Also picked up by CBS: Two Broke Girls, a comedy about... two... broke... girls. [EW]

... HBO is talking to Robert DeNiro to play jerk-of-the-century Bernie Madoff in its upcoming move based on the book Wizard of Lies. The movie will chronicle Madoff's swindling of billions of dollars from unsuspecting investors in the biggest Ponzi scheme in history. [NY Times]

... Katie Couric's last day as anchor for the CBS Evening News will be next Thursday. Her replacement, Scott Pelley, will take over as the weeknight deliverer of bad news on June 6. [NY Times]

... Syfy is in the process of spinning off Warehouse 13 with a standalone series focusing on the character of H.G. Wells (Jaime Murray). The idea is to set the series in an 1890s steampunk environment near Warehouse 12, where she'll solve mysteries and such. [THR]

... What was Charlie Sheen's reaction to the news that he was being replaced by Ashton Kutcher? "Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer ... Oh wait, so am I!! Enjoy the show, America. Enjoy seeing a 2.0 in the demo every Monday, WB. Enjoy planet Chuck [Lorre, the creator of the show], Ashton. There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there." #winning. Well, last time the CW (then the WB) had Gellar on, they found themselves with "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," easily one of the best tv shows ever, and certainly one of the most underrated.

I couldn't get into The Wire at all, but loved Treme from the very start. Go figure. Very happy it's been renewed for a Season 3.

Can't wait to see Michael Emerson back on tv. Wasn't Terry O'Quin supposed to be in it too?

SanjayC1, awwww, is somebody upset because I offered a differing opinion? I'm sure you've never had an opposing opinion of the majority, right? Get a clue, moron. Nobody has to agree with every little thing. Are you seriously that brainwashed that you can't develop a mind of your own?

"The Wire" is really good, but best TV series in history? Hell no. It's overrated and barely in the top five of best TV series that HBO has ever made. Don't buy into the hype.

Here's a worse scam than Madoff, and would make a much better book or movie. Read about it and forward to others so they don't get scammed: http://texsquixtarblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/who-is-worse-bernie-madoff-or-rich.html

Yeah, no doubt about it. The Wire is hands down the most well-crafted story ever to play out on TV.

I'll definitely watch The Ringer (because of Geller) and Person of Interest as well, because DUH Abrams+Nolan is a beautiful equation. Hopefully the show lives up to both their pedigrees.

The Wire really is the best show ever made, Treme isn't THAT good, but it's still brilliant. SMG is hot as hell, and the Person of Interest sounds... uh...interesting.

I thought the last time I had to talk about how "The Wire" is the most boring show that was ever on television would have been after it's most interesting season, which people hated. Were there too many things happening or too much drama, or did you learn that realism is something you experience everyday by going outside?
