Here's Everything We Know About the Bones and Sleepy Hollow Crossover

The fall's most confusing development, the upcoming two-hour Bones and Sleepy Hollow crossover event, will air Thursday, October 29 beginning 8pm on Fox, the network announced Thursday. In an episode that is said to "thrill the living, the dead, and everything in between," Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) will cross paths with Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) after the discovery of some pretty grisly human remains. Naturally, they find that they're after the same evidence, because otherwise there is no single possible reason for these two crime-fighting teams to exist in the same universe, let alone team up for answers.

In the crossover's second hour, in a storyline that appears to be wholly unrelated to that of the first hour, Ichabod’s former nemesis—who is most definitely not the Headless Horseman (sad face emoji)—is back from the dead and Abbie and Ichabod seek out Booth and Brennan for advanced forensics to stop him. Because, sure, why not?

"When the idea came about to create this crossover event for fans, our writers’ room was immediately energized,” said Clifton Campbell, executive producer and showrunner of Sleepy Hollow. "The creative freedom to merge these two worlds which, at face value, seem so different; but at their core have such striking similarities—mystery, intrigue, and methodical deduction, wrapped up in such strong character partnerships—was a challenge that we all welcomed, and we believe that fans of both series will be very satisfied by the result. It was a terrific collaborative experience across the board and we are eager to see the fan reaction to Ichabod and Abbie working alongside Brennan and Booth."

"The Bones/Sleepy Hollow crossover is like a great episode of The X-Files, where the Bones hour is the Scully, logic-based perspective and the Sleepy Hollow hour is more Fox Mulder-esque,” said Michael Peterson, executive producer of Bones. "Put them together, and it’s going to be a great two-hour event that fans of both programs are going to love."

Bones and Sleepy Hollow return Thursday, October 1 at 8pm and 9pm, respectively on Fox.

I'll reserve judgement until I see how they wrote it, but these 2 shows can't possibly exist in the same universe. One is highly scientific whilst the other is completely supernatural.

It is very odd but, if the crossover is either a Halloween special and/or "meta"/self-referential one-off, then it won't violate any universe or genre rules. Again, a tremendously strange development but, out of curiosity, I'll be watching.

I'll give it a chance, but the idea sounds terrible and i already called it quits on bones after last season. I don't need to be reminded of this show again. I like sleepy hollow as it is without another show to prop it up. If anything bones should dedicate 1 episode to finish off the finder which ended too soon.

Eh.... what?

Seems like an odd cross over but I guess you go to take risks some times. Might be the best episode of either series.

This sounds great to me! How funny will it be to see the oh so logical Brennen made to believe that there is a man that fought in the revolutionary war standing next to her. I will blow her mind, like when Kirk confused the computer and made it blow up with "I am telling a lie". I think a few of the commenters need to lighten up and have fun with it, it seems the writers did!

I don't get how they thought this would be a good idea. Hey I know let's do a sleepy hollow x SpongeBob crossover. That makes just as much sense.

I'll give it a chance, but I can't imagine that this is suppose to be real. If anything it'll be a non-canon one shot just for the giggles. I mean are they planning on keeping the supernatural side of things from the bones team? If they don't...what happens to the bones show in a world where they have confirmed the existence of the supernatural?

I have a feeling they'll look back on this and go WTH....Why did you guys let me do this!?

Back in the days a crossover with another show which Boreanaz was also apart would have worked just fine.. Angel of course... It'd have introduced more possibilities to the world of Sleepy Hollow.. At least the mix of supernatural activities was reliable.. How will they explain in Bones which is a normal drama / comedy, that such things exist in their world... Doesn't seem right to me...

The Bones cross-over reminded me of another show, Vanished, that was cancelled with some loose ends. It was entertaining but the ratings went downhill. Might do better these days.
Anyway there was a rumor that the storyline was going to be resolved in a Bones episode. This was back in 2006 and never happened. Rather see that than the Sleepy Hollow cross-over... Oh well.

I like the idea, if only because the only crossovers lately have been between Chicago Fire and Chicago PD.

Any Doctor can go from Grey's Anatomy to their own Private Practice, spin-off build their audiences on those special events.
However, I have never seen any character from Elementary trying to make sense of a creature like Hannibal or a wesen from Grimm getting rescue into Wayward Pines.

Heroes were never stranded in Lost, or Castle tried to make sense out of a cold case from Agent Carter times, even serialized shows like Person of Interest avoid crossovers unless it's mean to promote spin offs.

This news kind of reminds me a bit of the X-Files/Picket Fences crossover episodes that thankfully did not happen because the Networks' execs realized just how stupid an idea such a crossover would have been...
(Although Picket Fences did still sneak in some references to events that happened on what would have been the X-Files crossover episode.) Sadly the current execs at FOX do not seem to be as smart as their predecessors...

Although I think at one point NBC did let one of their Homicide characters put in a guest appearance on a crossover appearance on an X-Files episode... Something minor like that might have been a bit more tolerable this kind of full crossover which just has such a high probability of ending very badly.

As anybody who watched last year's Flash/Arrow crossovers (and is gearing up for this years even bigger ones with another show or two tossed into the mix), or has read the hordes of Star Trek / Doctor Who / Battlestar Galactica crossover fanfic out there can tell you, it's not like genre fans don't _want_ crossover episodes.

But the thing those crossovers have in common is that they are in the same genre? I mean Flash/Arrow have both co-existed in the DC comics universe long before the TV shows existed. They are both superhero shows and neither of them has made it a point to contradict the existence of the other. The same goes for the other shows you named which are all shows about Space/Time travel. A crossover there seems fully plausible without damaging the integrity of any of shows involved.

Bones has always existed in what essentially is the "real" world. Everything always had a rational scientific explanation. At most in the later seasons there have been times where the show would leave things unexplained where maaaybe there was a possibility of a ghost. But without ever stating anything definitively. To suddenly fully supplant this show into the Sleepy Hollow universe of confirmed magic/demons/monsters etc just seems like it should remain the work of fan-fiction writers only?

Yes it's definitely FOX but there is something else...

I've got it! It's FOX SHIT!!!

(I've stuck with Bones for a while now and I think this is the thing to push me over the edge and stop watching. I just hope that this was pushed from the network and not the writing team because if it is then they should just retire NOW!)

Interesting...... Doesn't make any sense. If they are going to do something silly like this then they should've done a Sleepy Hollow and Simpsons crossover.

A Sleepy Hollow- X-files crossover would had made more sense...... They should had done that with the upcoming X-files short series?

GOD this sounds even more laughably desperate than when i first read about the crossover - yeah FOX - this makes the most logical sense you ratings whore

I also heard the Headless Horseman will not appear in season 3 - even MORE reasons not to tune it to Sleepy Hollow

I argued the idea of crossovers in a column last year, when I thought that The Following, Person of Interest, and Daredevil should all cross over.

Hopefully this is a start.

I happen to read that column. Here is the link:

http://www.tv.com/shows/person-of-interest-2011/community/post/the-ultimate-nyc-tv-crossover-1429889541/

My thoughts. two possibilities
1) He isn't serious
2) poor Gislef is having a psychotic break

You can't mix two excellent series poi and daredevil with one utterly horrific one The Following. That's heresy.

I've never watched a whole episode of Bones, but I still find this whole idea very hilarious. Hell, I think networks should start making all their shows set in and around the same time do crossovers with each other, genre be damned. Sleepy Hollow's set in New York State, why not have Peralta and Boyle from Brooklyn Nine-Nine make their way up to Sleepy Hollow?

HBO could do one better, and just have the next season of True Detective be set in San Francisco about a crime involving the Silicon Valley cast.

I really hope this is going to be as silly as it sounds. If they do anything other than play this for laughs it will be disastrous. It is quite sad how much Bones has turned into a show that has clearly run out of ideas and Sleepy Hollow has also hit a big blip. Here's hoping that if nothing else, this will reinvigorate both teams of writers.

Ok, I've seen episodes but don't watch both of these shows. From what I understand, Sleepy Hollow is a supernatural show and Bones is very much not. This means that the world in which Bones takes place is now being revealed as a supernatural type world. That would make me super angry. But I don't watch, so I really don't care.

Not only Bones was not supernatural, Bones of the first season was THE show that THERE WAS NOT A CHANCE for a supernatural event to occur. Because of "it's all about science" Brennan.

But as the seasons passed, they (producers/writers) turned the show to a comedy, added some ghosts, some chats with some dead persons and now this. So it's not so sudden. The downfall of Bones from a scientific show to a supernatural fiasco has begun earlier.

The network executives were watching Teen Wolf together and decided "to blur the lines between science and the supernatural".
As the veterinarian Dr. Deaton put it in episode 4 of season 5. That's not possible. it's called the supernatural for a reason.
Hey a crossover with Teen Wolf is an idea. Dread Doctor Brennan. Got a nice ring to it. LOL. Ok. not funny.

Teen Wolf
I hate it, then i love it.
It's like i want to throw it off a cliff
and then rush to the bottom to catch it.

Dr. Brennan in the first seasons was an annoying know-it-all denying her own feelings because she only wants to believe in rationality. Well, some things in life aren't rational. Love for instance.
And she was always criticizing Sweets because "psychology isn't a real science". How can you even say that ? But you know that is Brennan.

Now that she has a kid she goes from the rational to the complete irrational. She has grown as a person because she is more in touch with her feelings but that doesn't mean you suddenly have to believe in the paranormal. What's next? She has a religious experience and starts to believe in God? So Booth and Brennan can go to Catholic church together. Even after all the child abuse that happened inside the Catholic Church.
EW. So having children is really life changing to use a cliche. Barf.

The network executives are off their meds again. I can't believe this is really happening. This is even more ridiculous than the dystopian version of Little Women. Oh well...

I would not have minded that, but then the A-Team was jumping sharks regularly, and with good-natured gusto. But I think the major objection is the genre-jumping concept. I could see Teen Wolf mix with Sleepy Hollow, or Killjoys with Dark Matter long before I could see a fantasy horror show mix with "real world" procedural.
