This January, titans will clash--NBC's new hit, Heroes, will go up against Fox's 24 on Monday nights. In an effort to keep viewers tuned in, Heroes creator Tim Kring has a few tricks up his sleeve.
Kring says that, as TV ads have promised, one of the heroes will die.
"We originally intended the Grim Reaper to come sooner and more often. In fact, we started out with a couple of the heroes already on the chopping block," Kring tells TV Guide this week. "Every actor and character is working so well that it's been hard to let anyone go. Still, killing this [character] will generate a tremendous amount of story."
Kring will also soon reveal just who, or what, is responsible for the nuclear explosion that levels New York in the near future. The possibilities will leave fans stunned.
"We've introduced Sprague [Matthew John Armstrong], who is radioactive and seems to be getting worse," he continues. "But we'll posit another theory that it's Peter [Milo Ventimiglia]. He's having so much trouble absorbing the powers around him that he goes into a coma."
The storyline of Claire's father, Mr. Bennett--known as H.R.G. for the horn-rimmed glasses he wears--will continue, with an unusual twist. Kring says one of the Heroes will begin working for him.
"[Someone] will be seduced into the web of horn-rimmed glasses," Kring tells the magazine. "We're keeping things ambiguous with H.R.G. There's a lot of uncertainty as to just how bad he really is, or where his allegiance really lies. He seems to be a very loving father, so the audience should feel torn about him."
Heroes' last new episode until January airs tonight at 9 p.m. on NBC. The series returns January 22. Fox's 24 premieres a week before that.

24's on a role.. I doubt Heroes will be able to succeed as well as it has by itself. It'll do good, I'm sure, but 24's been around for a while, and its ratings have been improving every season since 4

I wonder what's the big deal of not telling us the character full names? We still don't know HRG full name, the haitian guy's name, Sylar's name was discovered recently, etc.
i can't wait for jan. 22. seriously...i can't. there's too much suspense as to what will happen next and i'm just eager to to know.

its so obvious what the taglines means, and that is if Sylar get the power, or Peters power, he'll be an unstoppable killing machine.

It's too bad NBC is keeping Heroes in that time slot, because Heroes and 24 appeal to much of the same audience. It's not fair to put a new show against an established blockbuster. NBC better not screw this up and then cancel Heroes because it couldn't beat 24. That's the kind of crap Fox pulls, like with Firefly. Also, keep in mind that you can watch Heroes on NBC's website the day after it airs. They keep it up for a week, until the next ep airs.

24 for the win! That night will be most interesting. I don't think Heroes has got what it takes give Bauer a hard punch in the guts. But if it does... he still won't talk. lol
24 is the best but i like heroes too. i wish one of them coul move their time slots.

Taking a big risk going up against 24, Heroes is great though.
I really like Heroes, but for me there is no competition. 24 no matter what. It's just stupid to pitch it against a show like 24.

Man January 22nd is going to be one hell of a nightFirst we got Prison Break on at 8pm, then 24 and Heroes at 9pm. I will watch PB live, 24 live, and thank god for TIVO I will watch Heroes at 10pm following 24.
I'll just have to watch one, and record the other. I like them both too much to ignore one.

I love Keifer Sutherland, but nothing will stop me from watching Heroes.If you've got Sci Fi channel, it's on on fridays right before the new Doctor Who, it's on on Monday, and I think sometime in midweek.I only know this as a college student who has to work around her class scheduals...^_^

24 vs. Heroes who will win?
This is sweet! I love Heroes and I love 24 it should be a good battle. I just wish these future "hints" or somewhat spoilers weren't around so viewers can truly enjoy it and be surprised at every moment instead of being told to expect a character to die.
If tim things some superhero sci-fi is gonna keep me away from jack, he's got another thing coming.
