Heroes return doesn't include Origins

Good news and bad news for Heroes fans. Good news first: Heroes, as everyone knows, is coming back...but what people didn't know is that it's coming back big, according to NBC-owned SciFi.com.

The return for the superhero saga has been set for September 15, but here's the kicker--it's going to be a three-hour event. The season three premiere will be preceded by a one-hour "clip show" catching people up on the first two seasons/volumes, and the premiere itself will be a two-hour episode, which NBC TV exec Ben Silverman calls a "massive two-hour Heroes film."

It was previously revealed that "Chapter Three" would be subtitled "Villains," and focus on ordinary people with extraordinary abilities who use their new found powers for the not-so-good.

Now for the bad news. The proposed stand-alone Heroes spin-off Heroes: Origins is officially dead--for now. Originally designed to expand the Heroes universe while the show was white-hot, Origins was slated to have guest directors and tell stories of new heroes, one of which would eventually be folded into the regular show.

"We were taxing our creative team to do too much around that," Silverman said at the NBC upfront presentation to advertisers in New York yesterday. "We wanted 35 Heroes [episodes] and 12 Heroes: Origins, each of which was supposed to be a mini-movie and backdoor pilot. We reached far and challenged our people, and we decided it was better to focus on keeping the Heroes mothership as strong as possible."

In the meantime, Heroes fans can fill their time thinking about which recently announced Heroes action figure they want to buy.

omg! i downloaded season 2 from a source on the internet which was a hd recording of the NBC airing. I am from the UK so series 2 started yesterday but i couldnt wait till then. I was watching your version...and suddenly realised something...Its true wot people say about americans...you have no attention span! Every 5 minutes (no exageration) would be another 3 minute ad break! In the UK it is aired with no adverts wotsoeva (And we still understand it without being sidetracked by a bag of chips on the coffee table). I am preety sure that at least 90% of the people i am talking about couldnt manage 2 read this far into this comment (Well done you for not giving in...but u still have enough time to go to mcdonalds for a supersize meal b4 i finish). Anyway...back to the point lol. Heroes is amazing...its preety close to one of the best things that came from USA. PS. As soon as season 3 is aired over there...plz can people upload episode by episode to mininova.org. Don't think i cud handle having to wait until this time next year 2 get my hands on it (Especially knowing you have seen it, and it past. Thx

September 15th...
This season better be damn good if they're making us way this long. Holy crap...

And hopefully this season won't get completely destroyed by another strike.

I agree, they have to focus on the main, not on other things. In a second thought, they have to give to another directors the collateral series, something like expand universe, cool!

Canceling Origins was a good idea.

The main show is all that matters.

Season 2 DVD?

Heroes: Origins was a stupid idea to begin with anyway, so I'm glad they packed that in. They were over-reaching before they even began, with the network going spin-off cash-in crazy.

great news but such along wait .... I´m just greatfull this series is continuing & not being cancedlled half way like so many others. TBH I´m now reluctant to watch new tv series though fear they will get cancelled, even with heroes I waited entill season 2 had finished before starting to watch from the beginning of season 1 - I´ve grown tired of commiting myself to a series only to be left holding the can & wondering what happens. Anyways as said allready I´m really pleased to hear this news.

It says nothing about the show getting 35 episodes. They will probably get 22-24 episodes. It says they wanted 35 Heroes episodes and 12 heroes origins (which they're not getting), so it should be expected they won't get 35 episodes. The show or network wouldn't be able to afford it especially since their ratings will go down because of the lackluster piece of crap that was presented in season two. All i know is i will watch the two hour season preimer (f*** the clip show) and if it isn't good enough then i'm done with it.

A three hour event? Wauw, I remember the days where a season premiere alone was enough. :P Not that I'm complaining, love the idea!!

Yessss! After the writer's strike I was beginning to wonder what would happen to my best shows. I love heroes and have been a fan since the beginning. Three hour kick-off - awesome.

It's a shame Origin's has been canned before we even got to see it, although judging from the majority of spin-offs, it's probably a good thing. 5 months though? That's just cruel!

This is the best news ever! Heroes is the best science fiction show on TV right now! I am a little disappointed that Heroes: Origins is "dead" but not too surprised. In my opinion, it was a little too early to have a spin-off for such a young series. I would not mind if after season 3 finishes, maybe then introduce us to a new group of heroes, but for now, let's just have our Heroes back!

I'm actually glad that origins has been scrapped, it seemed like to much to soon. I am super glad to hear that Heroes is returning big though! I have a feeling that this season is going to awesome, after the back lash from last season. And given that we just went through a serious tv drought because of the strike, which amoung other things ended season 2 of Heroes way to early fans are going to be chomping at the bit to get back into the show. It's going to be big.

I never got all the hatred for season 2, still i'm looking forward to 3. Not too bothered about origins as i'm glad they're keeping their focus on the main show. Looking forward to seeing some real bad guys. I can see them being so bad that Sylar has to switch sides

heroes was good, but now they are going to waste a season watching big bad syler do bad things? lame lame lame. they destroyed the nuke ends the city plot too, ended it with such a terrible resolution, should have milked that for 2 seasons. the main plots of both seasons have been so weak, especially seaSON 2. i still love the show, but it could be even way better.

Origins is dead? I can't care about something I haven't seen yet. Better they focus on not screwing up on Season 3 like they did with Season 2. 3 hours? NBC must mean business. The 1st hour clip-show may not matter. But the remainder should be worth our time. Mid September looks to be pretty awesome.

I don't mind for no more Origins, I never really knew what to expect from it, but I'm happy Heroes will be back by mid-September!

2 hour premiere. That's the perfect amount of time for them to really kick-start Villains. With no Origins, I really do hope they can bring in the 'other directors' they planned to. Kevin Smith is great on TV - as the pilot episode of Reaper showed.

Wow 35 episodes? Guess they're making up for the shortened season 2. Also seems NBC is desperate to gain viewers again.

Holy crap! Are they actually making 35 episodes of Heroes or were they just planning to?

Sept. 15? Two hour premeire? No Spin-off? First two: Woo-Hoo! Last one: meh.

I'm sure they will come through with the spin-off at some point.

I was never too involved in Origins anyway...not a huge loss. I'd much rather have this 3-hour premiere event. It sounds great, and it's something Heroes needs in order for it not to lose viewers after its very loooong break, especially since viewers were already losing faith in the show during the shortened season two.

Hopefully that means they can bring in Eli Roth and Kevin Smith for a regular episode of Heroes.
