Hoff may be in new Knight Rider

Knight Rider isn't Knight Rider without two things--the kick-ass sentient Trans-Am known as K.I.T.T., and the kick-ass David Hasselhoff, who starred as the show's lead.

NBC knows this, and is making efforts to secure the latter in its upcoming Knight Rider telefilm sequel. Hasselhoff is "in talks" with NBC to reprise his role as Michael Knight, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Soap star Deanna Russo has been cast as the female lead for the film, which could be converted to a recurring television series should it perform well. Russo, who is featured in The Young & the Restless, will play the daughter of K.I.T.T.'s inventor and get Michael Knight's son (Justin Bruening) behind the wheel of the high-tech car.

Earlier this week, Sydney Poitier, the daughter of screen legend Sidney Poitier, was also cast in the film-pilot. She will play an FBI agent and antagonist to the main character.

is this an overkill for remakes and spinoffs

What a nightmare! Remaking a show like the Bionic Woman was one thing; new cast, new direction, new everything. To take the original Knight Rider and remake it with Hasselhoff is too much. If they wanted to take the same premise as other remade shows I could go for it, but this one stinks right from the outset!

I'm all for it as long as they get another voice
for k.i.t. I'm sick of hearing the William Daniels
voice and have KIT have new gadgets. Maybe kit could fly and have stealth or morph into a smaller car or something. Update the show like they did with bionic woman. Maybe make KIT a transformer.

Hoff is gonna get killed in the pilot IMHO. And K.I.T.T. definately needs to get updated.

D.H. is still looking good for his age and I think it is a great idea to bring in the next generation family and an updated K.I.T.T., I'm in.

If they're going to have a new Knight Rider, they should have the next gen of KITT. Also I wouldn't be surprised if what's-his-name's son ends up driving a next gen version of KARR.

I like the idea of KR coming back if David Hasselhoff is going to be driving the car. I don't like the idea of his son getting it. KITT was designed around Michael supposedly, his frame, height, build, arm-reach... everything, so having someone else in "Darth Vader's bathroom" just wouldn't work. And unless the car is now Knight Industries 2020 KITT won't work either.

Baywatch Rider ? Sounds like an adult film title :)

You shouldn't mock David Hasselhoff alcohol problem, fame can be pretty tough on some people.

I wouldnt call him a frail old man. But he could take the place of the guy who used to sit behind a desk and send Michael Knight on his missions. Hes 20 years older, a drunk who occasionally eats food off the floor and makes terribly cheesy pop songs for the Europeans but hes not 80!

    Nov 21, 2007
  • Raqtor

Well if they are going to use a Trans AM .. an old forgotten car they should use a frail old man as the lead charecter :PThey are aiming to make a comedy right? :P

    Nov 21, 2007
  • SoylentYellow

Will The Hoff be eating food off the floor? LOL! Maybe they could merge Knight Rider with Baywatch and call it Baywatch Rider. Michael Knight - Crime Fighter by night - Lifeguard by day...

I was too young to watch it on TV, but after all this buzz around you bet I'll check it out.

Well unless they're planning to use the *exact* same script as what they started with 25 years ago, they'd still need writers for this, so it won't happen until after the end of the strike. But if they think they can get away with that, I can imagine the humour of it ..."We've got footage of the crime scene ... on this wild new invention called video tape ..."

    Nov 20, 2007
  • Th3L05T

Can it NOW! Hoff should be banished to Germany.

O dear lord. PLEASE leave the "Classic" Saturday afternoon programs alone... I mean I know the writers are on strike, but surely they can come up with something original [Rather than ANOTHER "re-image"] :(
