Don't worry, you have at least one more season to hope that Dr. House will see a patient who has the exact same fungal growth on his crotch, thus saving you a trip to a real doctor. Fox has renewed the medical drama House for an eighth season today, ending a contract stalemate between production house Universal Media Studios and the network.
Stars Hugh Laurie (Dr. Gregory House), Omar Epps (Dr. Eric Foreman), and Robert Sean Leonard (Dr. James Wilson) have all signed deals to return, and Lisa Edelstein (Dr. Lisa Cuddy) is expected to close her deal soon, according to Deadline Hollywood. Series creator David Shore is also working on a contract to return for season 8.
Leonard had expressed interest in leaving the show to pursue a Broadway career.House, a Fox staple, had seen its future slightly clouded when Fox and Universal couldn't agree to licensing fee deals for the show. In short, Fox had wanted the fee lowered because of falling ratings, and Universal was searching for ways to cut the show's budget so it could still turn a profit. In the end, the two sides found some middle ground and everyone was happy (except for some of the actors, who reportedly took pay cuts).
With star Hugh Laurie under contract for only one more year and the show not packing the punch it did in its heyday, hot-air experts (like me!) believe the eighth season will be the show's last.
Fox yesterday renewed Family Guy and The Cleveland Show for additional seasons, last week renewed Bones, and had previously renewed Fringe.
How do you think House should end?

I loved the last season, and I'm glad to hear that there will be a next one :D.
i think house will end up dying. OR it ends with him killing 13 then never to be heard again.
It says here "TV.com's Top 100 Shows on 05/12/11 at 03:18PM (Pacific)" that House is third best show and they will probably cancel it?! Damn thats not logical at all :((
House probably won't get a happy ending, because as much as we want that for the character, it's not realistic.I think an excellent finale would actually be a non-finale: everything is the same. House tells the team that he'll see them tomorrow, and the credits roll. It would be fitting, in a way.
As someone said below they really should end it with him dying....I know networks have researched that people subconsciously wont rewatch a show if the main character dies (therefore bad for rerun ratings)...but since season 5 I have allways envisioned this show ending with House dying..dont know why but thats just how I foresaw it...how he dies...well I'll leave that to the professionals and hope they dont do a bad job on it
Our beloved Timelord = The Doctor. Not this pathetic clown.
good for HOUSE
One person in the team gets unimaginably sick and gives it to all the other team members while their trying to figure out another case. House gets a phone call and discovers this and try\'s to fix it as it is a peculiar case and he can\'t figure up what\'s the problem. He soon finds out what it is and somehow has to sacrifice his life for theirs. Says there goodbyes and stuff and ends with House doing a good deed at last and does it for his team who has taken *** from him for several years. Nice ending in my opinion.
I never doubted!!!
Why haven't Olivia Wilde and Jesse Spencer signed deals?! They kinda need to become a couple next (or this) season...
best news ever
p.s. - I'm apologize about my English ;)...
"With House lying on his back in the grass, looking up at the sky, and then closing his eyes." - ... like Lost?? ;D NO! I want big and spectacular final - I don't cared about Jack, but I love House and I want sensible end from him!
Fox cancels Human Target, Chicago code, Lie to me Traffic light... what a massacre. Site EW.com
i'm a House addict.
If this indeed the last season, I would like Season 8 to tie up the loose ends of each character, and have them sent to better and bigger things that lets them grow as individuals instead of being stuck in the same old drama of their lives.
As we start wrapping up, emptying out, and watching them go, I would like to see Thirteen go through the downhill of her illness with one of the endings being House keeping his promise to her.
And yes, one of the endings for the show would be House walking out of the hospital one last time. Weather it's by himself, with Wilson, or with everyone, that would be a nice ending.
I have loved the show, and I'll miss it when it goes. Good luck and hopefully there will be a season 9.moreless
Special finales are overrated. The show should tie up any dangling plot lines by the last episode, end with a case being solved, and leave it at that. Or maybe Foreman and Chase, having been in House's shadow for so long, can accept positions somewhere else, help on one last case on their way out the door, Cuddy tells House she has candidates to replace the exiting members of his team that she wants him to start reviewing the next day, for once he doesn't give her an argument, and House and Wilson spend two minutes leaving the hospital against a musical montage, followed by House getting on his motorcycle and riding away.
never i love the show!
The show may not gather as much critical acclaim as the first few seasons did, but I still think it's got more than just one more season of life left. Clearly, a show cannot go on forever (*cough* the simpsons *cough*) but two more seasons is not unrealistic in my opinion. It's too soon for me to envision this series' finale; that's just depressing!
@averysays hahahahaha I agree!
The promo at the end of this week's episodes really made me think that this would be the end of the show.
With House lying on his back in the grass, looking up at the sky, and then closing his eyes.
The show should end with House dying of liver failure or Overdosing on Vicodin. Why he hasn't already is the biggest medical mystery on the show.
Hopefull House doesn't end soon because Monday night without House is not a Monday night. Am glad its renewed.
If this is going to be it's last season then let it go out with a bang, and on a high note. Fans don't want the show to just end and not have a series finale. Let us have are cake and eat it too.
I love House as much now as I did during the first season - exceptionally well-written, deep characters, excellent cinematography fantastic acting. It's one of the best shows on TV and it sucks if it will end. Fringe's S4 will most definitely be its last, Supernatural's future is extremely cloudy past S7, Treme isn't doing too well in the ratings... I hope it doesn't turn out that next year will be end to all my favorite shows.
To the person that posted the Mirror link, that paper is a rag and you shouldn't believe much of what is written, Hugh has recorded an album but has said that 10 months in the US every year away from his family is too much and that he will likely finish after series 8, which is more likely to be the reason he leaves. Would be nice to have him back over here popping up in things and using his proper accent.
great news
What about Olivia Wilde, Jesse Spencer and Peter Jacobson (though I don't care all that much about him)? And if season 8 is gonna be the last I wonder if Jennifer Morrison will be back for a couple of episodes, since her part on HIMYM is over.
House could keep going but it's become formulaic and the crazy doctor routine is a bit old. I already miss Masters whom I thought really brightened up the show. Maybe they should do one more strong season and wrap it up.
So happy!;););) And what about Olivia Wild - I like her and her personage??
great news. Especially about Robert Sean Leonard. I was under the impression that this was his last season
I stopped watching seasons ago. It was just the same old, same old after awhile. And I never really liked the new cast memembers much. But congrats to the fans! Maybe I'll catch up someday lol.
I just want them to know beforehand so they can end it properly.
end it on a high note, before things go really bad
As a HUGE House fan, I'm upset to see the show, posibly go at the eend of season 8. I want it to do better, so it lasts longer, but even the best of shows need to end at some point. I just hope they end the show with a 2hour series finale that makes me proud to have watched house from the day it aired, to the day it ends.
