How I Met Your Mother Fans Won't Believe Who Josh Radnor Is Playing Next

After playing a sitcom leading man for nine seasons on How I Met Your Mother, everyone wondered what Josh Radnor would do for his next big gig. If you answered "play a surgeon named Jedediah in a PBS Civil War series," we would have sent you to the nearest mental institution to have your brain scoped. Today, we'd be calling you a psychic.

Radnor and The Returned's Mary Elizabeth Winstead will lead the star-studded cast of PBS' Mercy Street. The six-part series follows the lives of two volunteer nurses on opposing sides of the Civil War, New England abolitionist Mary Phinney (Winstead) and Confederate supporter Emma Green (newcomer Hanna James).

As noted above, Radnor will play Jedediah Foster, a civilian contract surgeon from a Southern slave-owning background. Gary Cole, Donna Murphy, AnnaSophia Robb, Peter Gerety, Norbert Leo Butz, and Jack Falahee also star.

Mercy Street will join PBS's Sunday night lineup in winter of 2016, which also includes the highly-anticipated final season of Downton Abbey.

Will Jedediah fall in love with a woman holding a yellow parasol? I hope so!

From the title of the article, I thought he'd be playing the founder of Buzzfeed.

The ironic part of this is this is something Smosby would do. It's not the Ren-nay-sance fair, but it's close.

The title of this article makes me cringe... While actually somewhat surprising, this oddly does seem like a pretty good fit for him. I'm interested.

I assumed he would have become a full time director. He's already had some success.

Good on him for trying to diversify his acting reel.

Well I have to say...I didn't expect that!
Can't say I'll be watching this particular show (period dramas aren't generally my thing) but to each their own, I guess.

I also thought that and I don't even watch those kind of shows. Maybe illuminati MKUltra mind control has finally kicked in for all of us?

That is...legen..wait for it...no one cares. As much as I love Mary E. Winstead, this PBS series sounds like a snoozefest.
