How NPH Met the Emmys

Harris watches himself host the Tonys.

Fact: if you don't have a soft spot for Neil Patrick Harris, you're a cold, heartless beast. The actor has become one of television's most charming personalities, and he's using those talents for more than just playing the womanizing Barney on CBS' How I Met Your Mother.

Harris has the hosting bug, and that's perfectly fine with us as he's damn good at it. Earlier this year, he hosted The 63rd Annual Tony Awards and The 7th Annual TV Land Awards, both to positive reviews, and also delivered a memorable segment at CBS' upfronts in which he illustrated the "Bro Code." Now it looks as though he's getting ready for his biggest hosting challenge yet -- the Emmys.

According to EW.com (following up on reports in the trades this morning that talks were underway), NPH has signed on to take the podium at the 61st Annual Emmy Awards set to take place September 20 on CBS. With such recent high-profile awards show disasters (last year's decision to let five reality show hosts emcee the Emmys stands out in particular), using Harris as host is shocking simply because it's not completely idiotic. In fact, we can't think of a better choice ourselves.

Harris has plenty of prior connections to the Emmys. He's been nominated the past two years for Best Supporting Actor (and is an early favorite to win this year -- will he get to hand himself a trophy?) and announced the Emmy nominees last year with Kristin Chenoweth.

Hugh Jackman was good hosting the Academy Awards last year, and Ellen DeGeneres always delivers a strong performance when she hosts an awards show. But make way for NPH -- he's a rare talent that excels on live television and never makes it about himself. He's the consummate host with the most. See below for proof!
