How To Be a Gentleman Has Been Swept Under the Rug

THE NON-CASTING NEWS

... How to Be a Gentleman was canceled earlier this month after two weeks of being everything but good. But CBS didn't have the heart to erase it completely, and shifted it to the graveyard known as Saturday night to burn off its remaining episodes. In the end, that act of compassion lasted just one week, as CBS has killed the show entirely and pulled it from the schedule completely. Not very gentlemanly at all! [Deadline Hollywood]

... Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry is sticking with ladies for his next project. Cherry will adapt the telenovela The Disorderly Maids of the Neighborhood, about five Latina maids in Beverly Hills, for ABC. The soapy drama will have all of Desperate Housewives' calling cards, including murder! Dare I say this sounds kind of interesting? Cherry was previously working on Hallelujah, about a mysterious spiritual stranger who comes to town, but that appears to be on the back burner. [Deadline Hollywood]

... HBO is looking to work with Martin Scorsese more. The director, who produces and has directed Boardwalk Empire, is working with The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger on a drama about a music executive in the '70s. [Rolling Stone]

... Mandy Moore is headlining a new ABC family comedy that focuses on a newlywed couple trying to start a family. [Deadline Hollywood]

... NBC's revival of Fear Factor finally has a return date: December 12. The reality competition will air after The Sing-Off concludes and before The Voice begins in 2012. If the network really wants to scare the contestants, it should make them watch The Sing-Off. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Conan O'Brien's Conaco production company has sold a sitcom to TBS, home of Conan's talk show (convenient, eh?). Fat Chance is a comedy about two friends, one overweight and one a stud, who see their relationship change when a hot chick enters their lives. [THR]

... Moonlight creator Trevor Munson has sold a project to NBC. Vanish follows a mysterious man who helps people who are in danger and makes them disappear. Sam Raimi will executive produce. [Deadline Hollywood]

THE CASTING NEWS

... Dianne Wiest is on board and Chris Cooper is in talks to join The Corrections, a drama for HBO. The series, based on the 2001 book by Jonathan Franzen, would jump around in time and follow a Midwestern couple and their three children, who all grew up and left for the coasts to get away from mom and dad. Great start to the cast, I especially love Cooper! [Deadline Hollywood]

... French Stewart (3rd Rock From the Sun) will guest-star on Community as someone who does a great French Stewart impression. Seriously, it's Community after all. [TV Line]

HowTo Be A Gentleman was bad and it's good that CBS did that to the show it didn't deserve to be on air and the treatment that CBS did was the right thing to do.

  • DavidJackson8

Yes, not very Gentlemanly at all, toying around with its cancellation. It's too bad, the cast was pretty good. The show stunk.

Also, Mandy Moore is very boring. As is the plot of her new show. I can see why they came together on this one.

  • phuzee1

Not a great shock this. I am surprised this show lasted 3 episodes. I thought the pilot stunk to high heaven and CBS would do a mercy killing then but they let it go another two weeks.

I also thought that Vanish sounds like a TV version of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film, Eraser. It also could be similar to Person of Interest.

Tim, no wise crack about Mandy Moore's new show? boo...it sounds like every movie she's ever done...a.k.a terrible

  • Taccado

How many more family comedies can there be with "a couple trying to start a family"? Aren't people seriously bored with the idea already? I know I am.

  • coultere

Mandy Moore, haven't you done this already? Like, your whole career? Fail.

  • vitakato

Trevor Munson news sounds interesting. Hrm. But only because I'm a sucker for Moonlight :P And the Disorderly Maids thing sounds a bit like Desperate Housewives.

  • maritimer00

Vanish sounds very much like the Arnie flick "Eraser"...

  • aliSuz

Sounds like a sad replacement for Desperate Housewives...

  • KevinG87

here's how i read the Mandy Moore news: "Mandy Moore isis headlining a new ABC family comedy that spans three generations and focuses on a newlywed couple starting a family of their own and will be better than all other ABC Family shows except for Melissa & Joey but will STILL get canceled like State of Georgia and Nine Lives of Chloe King." screw you, ABC Family

Desperate Housewives redux sounds lame.. so does Vanish, plus if they're in danger, they'd "disappear" even if he didn't help them..

  • becksdakex

Mick Jagger and Scorsese sounds amazing! I wanna see it!

  • pcsjunior002

"Vanish" sounds like an interesting enough premise, and Sam Raimi could have enough juice to give it a decent shot. That being said, I don't know how good "Moonlight" was, and Raimi directed "Spider Man 3".....

  • Loooooooooooost

hahahahaha!!! Great Community news! And I would never have watched 'Gentleman', but loooove everybody in the cast. Poor guys.
