It took them long enough.
In a move that isn't surprising in the slightest, the creators of the überpopular American Idol have revealed that they are cooking up another music-based talent show, reports Reuters. However, instead of focusing solely on singers, Simon Fuller and his team will be on the lookout for bands.
Tentatively titled The Search for the Next Great American Band, the show will air on Fox and will follow the same formula as Idol. Auditions will be held across the country, and finalists will be whittled down by a panel of judges.
The competition is open to bands of all ages, genres, and styles, and the winner will walk away with a recording contract and, if the Idol fervor carries over, a wealth of water-cooler chatter.
No further details on the show, including when it will premiere, were mentioned.

How do you get into this show? because i think my band would do a little good x] my kansas likes us so maybe the world might x]
Word has it that the show is like THE GONG SHOW, as in it will feature an 88 year grandmother fronting a band called "The Grannys" and a group of Fat Clowns that parody songs from the legendary band The Doors.
I think its a better idea, however all musicians are not in a band. What about us soloist?
wow i kinda like the idea and i think loads of people are getting tired of the same thing 'solo artists'.
Hoooray. What a fantabulous attempt by FOX to basically say they don't want to pay professional actors for a scripted show, and putting on another reality show saves them scads of money. Let's hear it for the Fox Broadcasting Co!
Can barely stomach what passes for music these days and they expect an audience to sit through a series of unknown tunes?
Meh. We'll see. I mean, they tried American Juniors, and we know how far THAT group went.
It does seem better than Idol!
I can't wait to not watch this one!
Seems better then Idol...
