OMFGG. There will be a threesome between major characters on next week's episode of Gossip Girl, and the Parents Television Council--a slightly sex-phobic group that thinks Ugly Betty isn't suitable for anyone under the age of 18, for example--is mad as hell. They've sent a letter to the CW asking that the episode be preempted for being "complicit in establishing a precedent and expectation that teenagers should engage in behaviors heretofore associated primarily with adult films."
While they make some decent points about kids seeing things on TV and accepting them as norms and then mayyybe going ahead and doing those things themselves, we're not sure the PTC isn't being just a bit stuffy about this. Unless the storyline involves the Jenny or Erik characters, which it almost certainly does not, then the sex will be between three college-aged people who live on their own and are, yes, legally adults. That some tween might be watching the program and say "Oh, well now I know what me, Billy, and Veronica are doing this weekend," is a possibility, we guess, but isn't it then more the parents' responsibility to determine the show too racy for their kids, not the network's?
Though how a threesome is really much different or worse than any of the other tame sexy stuff they air on TV these days isn't really clear to us. And we hate to break it to the "won't somebody please think of the children!!" PTCers, but there is a LOT worse than a network TV threesome available to be seen, for free, right here on this filthy internet of ours. If your household is possessing of an internet connection, your teenager has likely seen, explicitly, what a threesome looks like.
I mean, let's get the important fact out there: teenagers have sex, always have and always will. And no shrill complaining about innocence or lame peddling of abstinence-only education or any other American puritanism is going to hush or change the inexorable inevitability that very likely a teenager you know is doing it with another teenager--boy, girl, or both. We shouldn't be in denial about this, nor should we be panicked and prudish. But! There are limits to what kind of teenage sexual behavior we can condone, right? Surely it must all be safe and consensual and never compromised or degrading. That's true for pretty much every person, teenager or not, but in the special case of kids, it just seems all the more important. Because teens are, yes, dumb and vulnerable and impressionable and are still young enough that something gone haywire now could affect them negatively for the rest of their lives. And of course we don't want that.
But we also don't think that the CW depicting college students engaged in some slightly outre behavior is crossing that line. It may be skirting it, but it's still firmly on the side of, if not good taste, certainly decency.
What do you think? Is a threesome on Gossip Girl too much for our precious teenagers to handle, or is it no big deal?

The so called threesome couldn't have been more pathetic.. all they showed was them kissing.. Weak..
this is too far. whether it's teenagers or adults.... I don't want to see it!
I think is too much for the poor parents to handle, they're so innocentlol
Ok soo they dont complain asbout the whle two guys making out thing, but a threesome isnt ok? and besides its network tv I seriously doubt this "threesome" is gonan be show in explicit detail
I just hope that everyone watches TODAY and we get more decent ratings!!!! PLEASE WATCH!!!
Ironically, all this media PTC is giving this episode to prevent it from airing is actually providing free advertisement for the show. I don't watch GG but I'm definitely tuning in when that episode airs to see what the big hoopla is.
Why is it that conservative organizations flip out over sex - but within any given night of TV, a child can bear witness to at least a dozen acts of violence that in my humble opinion is doing far worse damage to developing minds? Why? Someone, please tell me why.
Despite what a lot of people might think, teenagers are not being controlled by the television, just because a teenager might see something on tv doesn't mean they are going to do that in real life too. I mean if really all teenagers thought that what they see on tv is the norm then this would be one messed up place, but they don't. Just about everyone over the age of 12 knows that they shouldn't take everything that they see on tv too seriously, and I doubt that anyone under that age would be watching/be allowed to watch a show like gossip girl anyway
There is already too much sex on tv,life is not all about sex.
Nah its not too hot its awsome!!

Whatever GG is the bes show on tv and mondays episode is a must watch just tell your kids you can't watch it is is not the entertainment industry's job to raise your kids
Now that I know there's a threesome I kind of actually want to see it more.
How come everyone knows that there will be a threesome, but no one knows who it will be between?
A major plot element in one of the first seasons of Friends was centered around a threesome, and that show catered nearly exclusively to tween girls and adults who behaved like tween girls.
I'm always against censoring things, usually, but I think the threesome thing is stupid and should never be aired, though I'm sure it will get aired anyway. Sex is normal, most of older teenagers have sex, we see it in TV shows and all teenagers know it, it's no big deal. But now you have a threesome, in a TV show who's target audience are mostly tweeners... It's kind of sending them the message that adults do this kind of thing all the time and that it's normal and in reality, it's not. Plus, I bet the threesome is totally irrelevant to the progression of the show. What kind of show is this anyway? Threesomes? Couldn't they come up with something better? Does anyone remember the show "Everwood"? Now that was a good show for adolescents and young adults, with quality writing and no fake Hollywood bs.moreless
I don't disagree that they're nit-picky whiners, I do disagree with your views here."I mean, let's get the important fact out there: teenagers have sex, always have and always will. And no shrill complaining about innocence or lame peddling of abstinence-only education or any other American puritanism is going to hush or change the inexorable inevitability that very likely a teenager you know is doing it with another teenager--boy, girl, or both."I don't believe in abstinence-only, I think kids need to know EVERYTHING to better protect themselves.Furthermore, teenage pregnancy is on the rise. We don't think this could be in correlation to the increase of sexually-charged television? It's about time watchdog groups took a break from video games and complaining about how they make kids violent (despite teen violence being on the decline) and started looking to an actual problem in our country.moreless
IMHO The PTC is the biggest group of over-reacters known the society, "Ugly Betty" not sutable for minors? "South Park" ALWAYS getting the Worst Cable content Mark? BullS**t. These people are trying to change society, and that just can't be done Such as Marge in the "Ultamite Punching" Episode, that really P.O.ed me, to Quote Futurama "Television alone dosn't turn kids bad" " yeah give a litte credit to opur Public Schools"
They're only giving "Gossip Girl" even more attention and publicity about the upcoming three-some, so they're really only helping the show.
don't they know that it's fiction? i mean, we teens aren't that stupid. then again, i can't speak for all of us.
f*** the p.t.c
no but then again, it would be better if it wasn't on gossip girl
Yes.
It's not a show for Children and if children are watching this, the parents should be repremanded.
It's really not that big of a deal. Like it says, there are things on the internet that are far worse. Most kids have already been exposed to this kind of thing anyway. These parents whining about the threesome are only going to make it seem more appealing to their children. Way to go.
I wonder if the PTC realizes that they have given this episode more free publicity to ensure that it'll be talked about.
Arent you gonna tell us who it's between? Come on, no information past the headline in this article...
This is nonsense!! If they believe it's too racy for their own teens they should just not let them watch it. Point. How can they bother to waste their energy over such petty issues... I totally agree with Starprincess13 "There is difference between protecting children and going completely bonkers about television showing a little skin. Overprotective parents are the reason many teens can't cope with the real world when they leave home.Starprincess13 Posted 11/04/2009 22:10:56 They are totally ridiculous, their teens are exposed to more explicit things at school or with their circle of friends...
Gee, i wonder what would happen, if "Skins" (a UK show) would be shown uncensord on american television...most likely it would be worse then a LHC generated black hole. But then, a few stuffy heads imploding would be nice ;)
Oh deal lord! The things people find time to complain about. Like there aren't bigger things in life to worry about than what happens on tv shows. It's not real life, and kids learn that stuff anyway. You can't protect your kids from stuff like that anymore, because it's all around
I think the ATC is doing another great job of overreacting comparing a threesome on network television to a full blown porno is stupid no way will it be that explicit and as was mentioned above there's way more graphic stuff that can be seen elsewhere so they really should drop it this time. On another note anyone know who will be in the scene yet can't find much solid info on it but I'm probably not looking in the right place.
Cant wait to see this.
R0BUK im with you!!

they're making to much of a big deal of this.. chillax..
being college students and 18 and over persons then its not too racy...once Nate and Trip are not involved then it won't be too bad...GG has had sexual content in it since the beginning and it is the parents' responsibility what their 14 year old watches..
a Threesome on next episode of Gossip Girl?!I just hope it involves 3 girls... :Dwhich is pretty unlikely :(

i totaly agree
i totaly agree
There is difference between protecting children and going completely bonkers about television showing a little skin. Overprotective parents are the reason many teens can't cope with the real world when they leave home.
Depends. Will the two cousins participate in the vanderblixing?
kids are overprotected these days, let them see a bit of boob. and PTC, go to hell.
The only reason I'm not sure I approve is that it's going to set too many future college students' expectations way too high.
